Ok, one of my friends is having a weird problem.

He just got a computer off Ebay and the drive was deleted. ok. then he starts to install XP and gets these messages. ok, it says there was a problem detected and windows had to be shut down to protect data.

then something called setupdd.sys comes.

It also asked him to set up xp on selected item , create partition, or delete partition.

It also in a box had unknown disk and no diskl in drive when he had the disk in the drive

also when he puts in the mobo disk it asks him for a floppy disk and he didnt get 1 with it

Buyer Beware off of E-Bay my friend, first your friend should've gotten a brand new hard drive, since the seller should've never sold his to you in the first place.  You have no way of knowing what kind of files the seller had on his hard drive, formatted or not there still could be info on the drive that's corrupting the install.  Tell him to get a new drive.

try a full test with the HD test tool from the manufacturer of the HD. Sounds like the HD is fubar

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Well your supposed to get those second messages. Here:

Pop in the XP disk and restart his computer.
You should get a message asking if you wanna boot from CD, Press any key to accept.
Then setup should start transfering files from the disk, itll take a while
Then you should get a message about the licence, click F8 to accept.
It'll scan for previous installations of windows/harddrive partitions.

Now, when you get to the second message you said about the Creat, Delete, and Install. You want to highlight the C drive, then click "D" for delete, then once thats deleted, you want to highlight "Unpartitioned Space" and press "C" to create a partition, by default the partition size will be maximum which is good.

Now after you've created the new partition (should be C Raw or something similar) highlight it, and press the button to install windows (i think its "i")

Now for the format choose "NTFS FULL" when i say full, i mean the first option, (NOT THE "QUICK" NTFS option, youll see)

Now wait for god knows how long till its done, and windows will begin installing, then enter your information like serial key, time, name, ect ect, and let it complete. Once you get past the Creat, Delete, Install part its very simple and user friendly. PM me with any specific questions if youd like.

i wish installing my OS was as easy, i have 2 raptors in RAID0 and guaranteed every time i go to re-install my OS (xp pro) it never finds the drives, it takes me about an hour of rebooting to get it to recognize the drives

Boot off XP cd and delete the C partition... then create a new partition and choose format ntfs...
choose the full format option(there is a quick format... dont choose that one)  then after it formats the drive should be fine and it will install XP...

Dont forget when installing XP, you cant install more than one (1) copy onto your PC and you cant have more than one (1) processor running.... thats right, you're breaking the EULA if you install XP on a system that has a dual core processor..... altho my copy of XP is like 3 or 4 years old now and the EULA might have changed since then......

And as for the HDD - use a commercial HDD cleaner. It should scrub the HDD almost to factory clean. (Takes about 7 or 8 hours, depends on the size of the drive and scrubber used).
