Yes, I got my first tube of it recently so I am pressed to use it. I was thinking of trying it out on my NorthBridge since it's pretty warm, would that be O.K. or is there something different about them that I should know? Google didn't bring back many results of people putting AS5 on their NorthBridges so I have nothing else to go off of.
As5 works on anything with a heatsink, so yeah it'd be fine. Just make sure you clean it well first.
It looks like a really good idea for those people with newer motherboards where they get extremely hot.
I would love to try this if I ever get a laptop: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=55084
I'm sure it would be great since they can often get quite toasty inside, lol.

I just did it, my first AS5 application. Unfortunately there is either no temperature sensor or Everest Home Edition doesn't support NorthBridge temp sensors so I can't tell if it did anything.
I have an older Mobo, and the Northbridge fan went out. Replaced it with a heatsink, and Arctic 5. works fine for 4 months now.
Update: I guess it does to NorthBridge measurements, it just calls it the motherboard.
Running at 36 degrees C on it now, I was idling around 39 before. This was my first time and I was also feeling a bit rushed for undisclosed reasons so I think I may have put a little more on than I should've but it looks like that didn't matter too much.

You only need a little bit. Too much and it will ooze out the sides and make a mess._j5689_ wrote:

Besides, those temps are fine...most motherboards can see temps of 80*C+ without problems.
i just put as5 on my laptop and dropped about 20c. the stock TIM (if you want to call it that sucked)_j5689_ wrote:

on topic, it's fine to use as5 on a northbridge just don't use too much. i put as5 on every hs i can pn my pc.
If you want to notice a bigger drop in temperature, use some alcohol or component wiper. You might not see any old Thermal Paste but there will be some. Time for a story! :
My CPU thermal paste had been wrecked so it was running at 70C. I wiped off old TP (Thermal Paste) and put some new Arctic Silver 5 on it. It dropped to 50C. Then, I took it off again, cleaned off the newly applied AC5 (Arctic Silver 5), used specialized component cleaner to clean off everything on the CPU, re-applied the AC5 and my temperatures were down to 30C.

And it can still get better once it's in it's final stage. What kind of CPU was it?leetkyle wrote:

I've done it again, i've applied it to my GPU this time although I got a lot of the old shit smeared on the green part below the GPU itself. I was using napkins to clean everything. I did this because my computer crashed while I was playing PR (again) and the screen was artifacting a little bit just like it did the first time it crashed.
Now I just have to wait for my processor to get here, I think UPS actually shipped it by truck cross-country.
What a bunch of retards. You have to use a plane when it's going from California to D.C.!

E6400, and then I did my X1900XT as well! (it only dropped by 10c because the paste was still fine)
