Just another thought, even if this test does provoke them to acquire another weapon, it is the government and the military, it will take years.

BEFORE we sent troops overseas?  When would you lhave liked the tests? 1940?  We have had had troops overseas consistantly since WW2 and even before.

But to answer your question, the military has been constantly working to both develop improvements in the current series of small arms as well as looking at possible replacements.  Most likely answer is politics, but better late than never.

wipe down after 600 rounds I'm for the HK416 not just because i own a HK but because i know that they test all there guns under allot more harsher condition then what i read in the link.
