I have a Dell Inspiron e1705 running Windows XP MCE. I arrange my icons so that they go across the top of the screen, and just a few on the left side. I do not have "Auto Arrange" checked. When it boots up, if the screen is open, it's fine, but recently when I have been coming to my laptop in the morning (I shut the laptop over night), it seems to have restarted and since it was closed, all the icons are very oddly in the upper left hand corner.

It's really annoying rearranging my icons every single day, and I don't want to just align them on the left side. Is there anything I can do?

If nothing else, you could try WinTidy.

WinTidy is a utility that will automatically restore the
desktop layout you have saved. Read here.

Download WinTidy 2.0 here.

The software is free but you have to sign up for access to
PC Magazine's Utility Library. It's available by subscription only.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 and mine does the same thing.  But it is a work computer, so I just deal with it.  It would be nice to figure it out without installing a program.

If you download a free program called 'Powerstrip' there is an option on there to save and restore icon placement.
