I have BF2 installed right now, and it works ok, but the DVD is about to be completely useless very soon because of the increasingly large crack in it.  So I was wondering if there was a way that I could just copy the Battlefield 2 files that are already on my hard drive and burn them onto a DVD.  would this work or not?

I made images of my BF2 CDs with Alcohol 120% (.mdf and .mds files). That backs them up and I can re-install and play without the CDs.  I just use Alcohol to mount CD 1 when I play.

Edit: The BF2 files installed on your hard drive won't allow you to reinstall or play without your DVD.

Yeah, at the very least you should copy all the files to your HD. Then get some software to make an 'image' of the DVD.

alcohol %120 or Daemon tools are good virtual drives.  google them.

I'm not sure if image mounting tools are allowed in Battlefield 2.. just to let you know if you get banned or something for hacks

the increasingly large crack in it....

This happened to my mate and my BF2 DVD, in exactly the same place, wonder if its a fault or just a coincidence.

EDIT: Actually I think I've worked it out, In the Battlefield two case the DVD holder (where is says push here) is putting pressure on the disc everytime you put it back, I think thats the problem.

NOno, man, its fine. PB only searches for differences in BF2 folders and My Documents>BF2 folder...
Ive had BF2 mounted with Daemon tools for two years....No problems, and yes Ive had to reinstall BF2 more that 6 times, it always finds the image on the virtual drive... works like a charm, and my DVDs are in great shape b/c of it

You could go the legal route and contact EA. I hear they actually will help you out and get you a new disc.

But, yeah, you'll have to deal with EA. God help you.
