Today I went up to my local library to get some books that I need to read over the summer for school. As I was walking out carrying All The President's Men by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, and The Jungle by Upton Sinclare[/i] (both of which I need for my US History Honors course), and having just returned It's Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong and The Subway Chronicles: Scenes From Life in New York (The two books I had to read for English III) I began to wonder what books my fellow gentlemen here at BF2S had to read.

So what books do you have to read this summer?

I'm like all grown up, so I don't have to read anything for anyone over summer, or at any time of the year.

The Jungle is a really good book, by the way.  I really enjoyed it.

So far this summer I've read My Pet Virus by Shawn Decker, Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman, and reread Catch-22 by Joseph Heller.

Harry Potter FTW !!!!111111one!!!!

Currently finishing 2nd book of "Foundation" novels by Isaac Asimov. And its absolutely amazing. Economy, politics, diplomacy, psychology, strategy, blackmail... it has everything. And even though its Sci Fi it doesn't have any Pew Pew lazors fighting in it

Also gonna give a second go at Richard Holbrooke - To end a War
I you are in to modern politics you will like it very much.

Read heart of darkness, its where the basic idea of lord of the flies comes from and the movie apocalypse now. Which in itself is a great book

QB VII by Leon Uris, Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut, and The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. I have also been told that I may or may not have been required to read off of the honors list and in that case could have finally gotten to read Catch 22 and 1984.

Any of Robert J. Sawyer's latest books, such as the Neanderthal Pallax series, Mindscan, Flashforward, Factoring Humanity, and Calculating God.

They are sci-fi novels that are partly proven with modern physics and sciences and partly theoretical.  They are a really good read and you actually learn a lot from them (especially about quantum physics)!

I haven't read much lately, but I've been pretty busy. Plus graduated = no summer reading. Which is both good and bad.

I don't have any summer reading, being done with lots of school and all, but I'm currently reading "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Eggers (I think). It's pretty good so far. I plan on reading "A Clockwork Orange" next, then probably "In Cold Blood".

Well, I guess I'll start with what I've read from the beginning of this year because I didn't finish the series until this summer.

A Song of Ice and Fire: (3 more books in the series -  all books over 1000 pages)
o A Game of Thrones, Bantam Books, 1996
o A Clash of Kings, Bantam Books, 1999
o A Storm of Swords, Bantam Books, 2000
o A Feast for Crows, Bantam Books, 2005
Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows
4 Dean Koontz Novels
Re-Reading Arthur C. Clarke's A Space Odyssey Series

For Freshman year of college I couldn't believe that I got summer reading but I do; Dead Man Walking by Sister Helen Prejean
