or

Im wanting a gaming pc with more cores as possible for my money, but performance wise..worth buying over the core 2 duo's?

I'd go for the Q6600 myself.

e6600 is good value for money. It all depends on your budget.

Edit: Damn just looked at the Q6600 its not bad. I wish I knew about it earlier oh well. I'm running smooth at the moment.

If it's a gaming pc, what do you expect to do with 4 cores? I'm sure you won't be playing 4 games at one time or owning a game that is capable of taking advantage of all 4 cores...

4 cores for a gaming pc is excessive, and I don't mean excessive like buying a ferrari instead of a corvette, but excessive like packing your house full of massage chairs when only one is in front of the T.V. -_-

Soon enough, Alan Wake etc. ...

Buying a house full of massage chairs, knowing there'll be a load of people round tonight to use them. Ie. knowing games will use quads in the not so distant future

OK, also ive never used a dual or quad core before..so when im playing a game..say crysis, can i designate all the 4 cores to play that one game?

It depends on the game. Crytek have made claims that Crysis will be optimised for multiple cores and have 64-bit extensions.

Supreme Commander is the only game I am aware of that currently takes full advantage of four cores.

Most games won't utilise all the cores. But forthcoming highly CPU intensive games are likely to be optimised for quad cores as Supreme Commander is.

I'd wait, like, a month is it to the 45nm CPU's?  For teh winzor

They will consume far less power, and radiate far less heat (requiring less cooling in the case).

Meaning higher clocks

I found this a while back, it gives a small description aswell, but its basically what TheDarkRaven said:

Lol, that will be the flagship, they always cost a bomb, there will be other main stream chips out before then, they say Q4 for the quad, so I would assume there releasing the dualies first, and I doubt they will all cost $999

In less than a year, you can be expecting games that will want to use at least 3 cores to run the game smoothly. 4 cores is always better than 2, even if you don't use all four cores.

If only they could optimize BF2 for multiple cores.  Not that it would really matter to me since i'm years behind all of you in technology what with my Pentium 4.  If I remember correctly, Lost Planet had optimization for mutliple cores but I could be thinking of the optimization for dual-GPUs, which I am positive that it had.  Of course this was all in the demo.

Of course 4 cores will be better for games soon, but at the moment they don't even use two. If I were you, I would get the e6750 or something cheaper, and then wait for the real jump in cores with the next product line, I believe something like 60 cores.

Also longer sustained performance
