So just the other day my power supply that I've had ever since I built this computer (about 2.5 years ago!) failed, and I don't know why. I think it might've shorted out or something. My hardware still works fine, but there was some brown stuff on my 4-pin connectors. This old power supply was 300 W. Fortunately my friend had an extra brand-new power supply lying around and let me have it for now. It's a 350 W and is compatible with my hardware. It even has extra crap that I don't need like SATA cables. My problem with this power supply is that it won't turn on my computer right away. I turn on the I / O switch to on, the LED for my internet connection on my motherboard goes on (meaning there is power to my computer), but when I press the power switch, the computer doesn't turn on. I press it some more and some more and it still doesn't turn on. Then I wait around for a couple minutes, and suddenly the computer powers on! Furthermore, this morning I just flipped the I / O switch and didn't press the power button, but the thing still turned on by itself after waiting 3 or 4 minutes.

Does anyone know what's wrong? Is it possible that some how parts of my motherboard got messed up?

[I don't know how this happened. I was playing BF2 the other day and it wasn't even a hot day, so I know my videocard didn't overheat, but my graphics did get all messed up like my card was overheating, so I think it just wasn't getting enough power. I switched the connectors of my videocard with my harddrive and tried turning the computer back on, and all that would happen is that it would try to boot up, and then the voltage would drop (I hear a clicking sound) and the thing would turn off, then it'd try booting up again, and again a voltage drop)]

If you think it's BIOS errors, simply pull out that battery like piece out of your motherboard for a few minutes, then place it back in (Of course having your PSU disconnected from the wall outlet.)

Sounds like your cable that leads to the power button on your computer is lose...

I've tightened everything up and made sure everything was plugged in all the way and was secure and I still have the same problem. I will try checking out the BIOS battery, though. Thanks.

Yup, that'll reset your bios to the default. (Assuming that's your problem, it should be fixed)

if your PSU went bad there is a very good chance something else got fubared as well, probably the Motherboard.

Yeah that's what one of my friends was telling me. Things seem to be running fine so far, but I really can't afford to build a new computer. And buying a new, crappy motherboard for my crappy computer is just a waste of money. I'll just have to deal with it, and save up my money for a while.

What's this? I've replaced loads of things including PSU but I've never had to do that, nor have I read anything about anyone doing that! Damn, just when you thought you have these computer things figured out, something new pops along!

Talking about the BIOS Battery that is.

You may also need to short the contacts in the battery holder.
Or, some motherboards have a jumper that you move over.
It varies from motherboard to motherboard.
Check in your motherboard manual.
