Hypocrisy, not irony. The difference is in intent. Irony is by chance. I say this because hypocrisy points out true ignorance.M.O.A.B wrote:

Very relieved to hear that, though I was pretty sure that most muslims wouldn't agree with something this ridiculous.Kmarion wrote:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7121025.stmThe Federation of Student Islamic Societies (Fosis), which represents more than 90,000 Muslim students in the UK and Ireland, said it was "deeply concerned" at what was a "gravely disproportionate" verdict.
The federation's president, Ali Alhadithi, said: "What we have here is a case of cultural misunderstandings, and the delicacies of the matter demonstrate that it was not the intention of Gillian Gibbons to imply any offence against Islam or Muslims.
"We hope that the Sudanese authorities will take immediate action to secure a safe release for Gillian Gibbons."
Islam in western countries is a totally different religion from Islam in the middle east/africa.Kmarion wrote:

edit: I almost say it's been Christianized...with its better respect for life. Let's face it, the west countries were driven by christianity for centuries, through the age of enlightenment...Christianity remains an influence in many western countries, although some may have an argument that is declining.
kind of a curious thought
That is politics. I pay no attention to that. Where are the protests against beheadings and suicide attacks?Kmarion wrote:

well said.usmarine2005 wrote:

USM has a very valid point, we seem to get protests which are heavily 'over-the-top' for something little and insignificant in which nobody has been hurt, the Dutch cartoons and this, in which they actually promote killings (in this case the execution of Ms. Gibbons). But when we have suicide bombers and beheadings taking place there is no comparison in protests from these people.usmarine2005 wrote:

Why was my thread merged with this one? I was posing a valid question, which the original thread did not detail.KILLSWITCH wrote:
Thousands of people have marched in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to call for UK teacher Gillian Gibbons to be shot.
No, 15 days in jail isn't good enough, hell even 40 lashes and a heavy fine isn't enough for these idiots. Now they want her executed.
I still cant believe that all of this has escalated into such an issue over a fucking teddy bear. I hope these 'protesters' realise that they are the laughing stock of the world. If you want the world to take Islam seriously, stop being so fucking wet.
The western world does not have a plot against Islam (as top Sudanese clerics have already suggested) and Gillian Gibbons did not name the teddy bear as part of this non existent plot, what a joke.
Is it time for Islam to mature as a religion and stop being so easily offended about petty examples like this, and the infamous cartoon incident? 'God' knows how much more global respect they would gain as a religion if they did, which after all is what they want, isn't it?
Because it came down to people saying the same things in both threads, and so it just got confusing.KILLSWITCH wrote:

Well, the kind of Muslims that would kill you over toilet paper are indeed mostly in the stone age, and thankfully, most of the ones that come to America are friendly to the West and are intelligent.velocitychaos wrote:
