Do not want.

Activision are responsible for gouging the fuck out of Australia with CoD4. I resent that deeply.

Call of Duty 5: World of Warcraft

Think er.......

Mekstizzle has not played enough World of Warcraft, or played it at all to make funny jokes out of the above title. Fuck you if you think I'm gonna play the game just so I can make a few jokes about how a CoD style FPS using WoW magic/guns would be hilarious.

The more money these gaming companies make, the shittier their games become.

EA is an example.

And I used to be a big console gamer back in the day... Anyone remember Goldeneye for N64 by Rare? They weren't very big until that came out, then they follow up with Perfect Dark. And then I think that's when they got bought out.

Insomniac Games has created the amazing Spyro series, as well as the Ratchet and Clank series. They're still a small company (though not as small as they used to be) and the great games just keep on coming.

Naughty Dog? Crash Bandicoot and then Jak and Daxter.

Naughty Dog? Crash Bandicoot and then Jak and Daxter. (Not saying Jak and Daxter is bad; saying ND had good stuff up until there, then they got bought out IIRC)

It's true. They're now more concerned about making a fast buck than creating a good game that will be remembered for years to come. I think this might explain my particular gaming style. I don't own many games. Instead, I just play the same old ones over and over and over, and I'm still entertained by them 10 years and 100 completions later.

EA are a games publisher though, not a game development company. It's their job and sole purpose to pressure game development teams to get their game out by the marketed deadline, which sadly I guess does result in botched poor-quality games. This is the nature of the industry though, I guess. Game companies want to make money, games publishers want to make money, and nobody can actually afford to spend lots of time making something that is highly refined. It's not as if game communities aren't open and used to the concept of patching now away, so developers' laziness and lack of thorough-checking is easily forgiven and sacrificed in order to put a game on shelves quicker.

Your rule about gaming companies isn't necessarily true, I don't think. Blizzard went from strength to strength with their choice of products and product life extensions. From Starcraft and RTS-Warcraft to the biggest MMORPG ever known, and now Starcraft II. They're on a good track. Activision turned the success of Call of Duty 1 / 2 into an investment for the console gaming market, and established themselves as a good maker of console-based FPS too. I don't really think this merger will be all doom and gloom, even though I am a little skeptical. As separate companies, they're doing an alright-job. I don't see any reason for a merge though, other than to further capitalize and rape more money from the consumers' pockets. Activision make action games and FPS, Blizzard make fantasy RTS/RPG games. I really can't see how they'll collaborate on anything more than a financial level.
