Definitely your video card screwing up. Is it overheating? Try turning off your comp for a bit and then turn it back on after it's cooled off.

Hi

This problem must be causing you some nuisance and I've suffered from the same thing in the past. A few questions:

1. Does this happen randomly, or only under more CPU usage than idle (eg. Photoshop, Battlefield 2);
2. What is the temperature of the card? (if you need help finding out just give me a shout);
3. How long has this been happening for?

Like someone said above, artifacts even in the likes of Firefox are very odd. If temperatures seem normal and so on, it could be a few things, but most likely:

- the card is simply dying (it happens...not often though);
- your cable may be causing the issue.

Please get back to me and I'll try to figure out what exactly is wrong. I'm sure this problem is bothering you!

Well at first it only happened once for like 30 seconds in the game (Battle for Middle Earth). Then it did it again and wont go away after restarts or anything so the CPU usage doesnt really have much to do with it as its at 9% now. Temperature of the card is about 60c according to Everest. Its been happening since...3 hours ago. My card is like 5 years old so it might just be dying.

I'm guessing you don't have another system to try it on..? Bit of a long shot! It's always worth checking for driver updates or rolling back if you recently upgraded. If not, try another video cable and it might just do the trick. If not, like you said, it might just be dying unfortunately.

This is my only PC sadly. What cheapish card would you recommend for my system? Preferebly under 100$ or just about that.

I have an X700 in my laptop and I had the same problem. It was the card itself that broke for me (on 2 separate occasions)

I had artifacfts in bios before (wrong characters), only that was because the cooler on the card was not seated properly, refitted restarted, all was good, so turn off, check the cooling, restart.

Wait what? Ive had artifacts with this card in the bios since I got the PC but I didnt know thats what they were. Even with the 2 card switches the idiots at best buy tried it still had the same problem. Guess its time to get a new card alltogether. Any recommendations?

I had that! If you moved Windows around you could paint the screen yellow...

I needed a new video card

While being better than your old x700, 7600GT's were a middle range card when they were released more than a year ago.

You would be much better of putting in another ~$60 and getting a x1900 pro or similar.

But if you can't/don't want to then go the 7600GT.

What's your budget? You really shouldn't cut corners when it comes to video cards (or PCs in general).

Ok this is fucking odd. I opened the case to try to replace it with my X300 that came with it. I dusted it off then looked but I couldnt find what the fuck was holding it in place so I gave up and turned the PC on and its fine. Wtf?

Well if your still looking for a new card, the 7600GT is a very good card for the price, performence will hold up to the newer games, not as well as a x1900 or such, however my 7600GT can play Crysis fine, and runs COD4 on medium settings easily.

Hell my X700 could run Crysis on all medium with no lag and I can run CoD4 on medium as it is but I still plan on buying a new one because this graphics card is pretty much shot if its doing that.
