I'm planning on building a new pc, kind of. Since I am short on money, I was planning on salvaging my dvd-burner and hdd from my current pc to use in my new pc. My question is, how will my hard drive react to all these new hardware changes (new cpu, memory, video card, mobo, sound card)? I'd like to avoid formatting as much as possible.

Also, how much better is SATA 3.0 Gb/s than PATA?

not good. Reformatting will be a lot less work than try to get windows to work under completely different hardware

Drive performance isn't really influenced by the connection used. If you have a 7200RPM drive you're all right. Anything slower and you should consider upgrading in the long run

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
