Well, OK, most of the ones I've met either online or in real life, but, assuming that I've probably met a fairly representative cross section, I do think the generalisation is a valid one.SenorToenails wrote:

I mean, it's like as if half of Europe didn't get firebombed on an almost daily basis during WWII.If we had a day of remembrance for every single event where lots of people died during war time, there'd be one every single day!trackstarr wrote:
This is just a day of remembrance because it was a major "surprise" attack that killed many unaware soldiers.
Its for the U.S.
We are not shoving "remember our veterans" down your throat
This day is just important to us.
When the US bombed the Japanese....How could I forget?
Aye. The day of the pre-emptive strike by the Japanese.
A sad one to be sure. The day the Pacific erupted into war and that World War 2 became a global conflict.

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
This day strikes a very personal note amongst many Americans (at least those with a smidgin of history). We're not trying to shove the "ZOMG FEEL BAD FOR US AND BUY OUR SUV'S" line down your throat (again), we just want to bring to attention this sad day in our nation's history. If an English person were to come on here and ask for some remembrance of a large massacre in their history, I would respect that. (I appologize for not being able to name one off of the top of my head, please blame the US Education System). There are some things that can be joked around, and others that do require some degree of maturity, especially on the D&ST section of this forum.
I still do not understand, why the Japanese didn´t send a third wave to finish them all...
day of infamy.. lol.. it was a day of incompetence

Love is the answer
who got the japanese on their radar and thought, it might be some own bombers? who fought with a japanese submarine? pearl harbour could have been less painfull for the us, if they wouldn´t have been so incompetent on this day.
and japan would have had it easier, if they had sent in a third and a fourth wave, to finish the pacific fleet off...

Radars ftw.
Nothing to be sad about. You got revenge in the best way possible. You (and other Allies) Totally kicked the shit out of Japan from there on.

You do realize that several USAAF B17's were scheduled to arrive from the same direction (within a few degrees) as the Japanese bombers, so the radar signature was misidentified. The presence of midget submarines in the harbor did not mean that an air strike was on the way either. Hindsight is always 20/20.[pt] KEIOS wrote:

The Pacific Fleet would still not be licked just yet. A third/fourth wave would've just furthered the damage and casualties at Pearl, but the carriers were still out at sea at that point.
I will be honoring this day by plaing this game : http://www.pearlharbor-game.com/
As Japanese because they have better planes.

but there would still have been a difference between damaged and destroyed...DesertFox- wrote:

Ok ontopic, why did the Japanese even attack the US in the first place? (cant be arsed reading the 10 page wiki article, someone summarise it please)

And after all that we rebuilt them & helped them start over, no other country would have done that. Of course we felt bad for nuking them but that's besides the point.
I wish everyone still felt the outrage from being attacked on 9/11 so we could finish the job & take out Iran n'freinds but the new administration will want nothing to do with war, & the family's I'm sure are tired of their loved ones being away. It's sad because they will attack us again, mark my words.

we cut them off of supplies because of their agression in china, they get mad and attack us by surprise so they wouldnt have to worry about us attacking them as they conquer more lands to feed their war machine. I think in particular what they missed the most from us was scrap metal.Mekstizzle wrote:

My Parents were in Hawaii last month. These are from their trip.

Did you know 48 civilians died from US anti-Aircraft fire? The bullets were coming down in Honolulu.
