They evacuated my office today after one of our agents opened a box of BRAND NEW Christmas cards and found white powder in them. She purchased them from Hallmark and was preparing to do a mail out to her clients. The next thing I know they are knocking on our back door and telling us we need to get out of the office. There was no response from any type of Hazmat team after an hour so I left and went home. I just got a call from my Dad, now approximately three hours later, who was at the office and he said the Sheriff is calling the bomb squad.

A couple of funny things I noticed before I left.

When one of the agents came outside she had the powder on her pants and was brushing it off. I said.. "uh I don't think patting your pants clean is going to stop anthrax". The idea of making everyone clear out the building to avoid ingesting the powder and yet walking around with it on your clothes is the perfect marriage of hysteria and ignorance.
They spent an hour outside of the building waiting for the authorities. They were smoking the whole time and most likely killing themselves with real poisonous chemicals.

I know the housing market is slow, but I don't think it warrants mailing Anthrax to Realtors quite yet...lol.

I don't know yet. My parents used to own a print shop and a lot of the presses have a mechanism that shoots powder on to the card stock as it comes out of the press. This is to prevent them from sticking or smudging. That would be my best guess.

A real estate office, Keller Williams. And no, I don't think there was a real threat. Although the response time of local authorities is kinda scary.

omg is that a joke sheriff?....of course it was not anthrax or some other chemical weapon....It is just a stupid policy to evacuate even though everybody knows the powder is more likely to be sugar etc. ....and ohh sheriff that ain't dangerous just so you know.
