If you purchase a mac, get good everything except: hard drive, ram, and monitor. All of those are cheaper to purchase else where and easy to install. Mac's suck for upgrading just about every other component.

i say dont get a mac because they simply dont have the edge on graphics that PC does anymore...you cant even get a rendering card installed in a mac. for graphics design, id say thats pretty damn important.

Well, generally they do cost more than the competition.  Argue that and I'll give you a cookie.

you could just buy a PowerMac G5 Chassis on Ebay and stick proper PC components in it.
Actually, if you do that you are quite a hero indeed. Because of the layout of the G5, you can only put in a MicroATX motherboard. Someone over at [H]ardForum has gone and done a professional full ATX mod, and has been sponsored by Swiftech I believe because of the quality of his work. This would take a lot of time and money.

Actually, it's piss easy to mount an ATX board in a G5 chassis. I've done 3 so far, all you have to do is mod the mountings and back panel a little bit.

I know of dozens of people who have done the exact same thing too.

Macs are overly expensive, the design isn't all that pretty (face it, plain white is boring), the hardware inside isn't really top of the line, except for the really, really expensive Macs. And then a PC with about the same specs would still be alot cheaper.

The only somewhat positive thing is that their OS is built for proprietary hardware and thus is supposed to be alot more stable. But anyone controlling a computer can screw it over, no matter if it's a regular PC or a Mac.
