I was looking to Upgrade my current Video Card, a GeForce 6800, to something like this, and around that price.

I'm not the best with techy stuff so I was just wondering if I could get some advice off you guys.

That card is worthless.  Give us your budget and we'll find you a good card.

EDIT:  nvm about budget, reread OP.  I'd look at a x1900 if I were you.

EVGA is great... they even have a trade up policy... XFX is good and i would check on forums on annandtech and toms hardware... and read reviews on newegg...  and make sure you have a big enough case... and strong Power supply...

The 8600gt is not even close to the 8800gt... and it costs nearly as much...

go for 512mb card if you can, that way your card can actually handle the shit it is having thrown at it.

Just so everyone knows, I am near sure his card is AGP.

What processor do you have? (Start->run->dxdiag; this will tell you).

If your computer has a 6800gt, that means that the rest of the computer is almost DEFINITELY a pile of shit.

Yep, which means basically everything suggested will not work.

My advise if you have AGP is to not upgrade at all. Save up and buy a new comp. If you do upgrade you are throwing your money away and you still wont have anything worth talking about. You need a complete new system, and I'm sure you could pick a cheap one up for less then $500 which would be 4 times better then what you currently have. If you spend a little more ($900-$1200) you could get something that runs Crysis maxed out.

I like that crysis is like a benchmark tool when trying to buy a PC, playing it maxed out is like a goal that everyone wants to reach.

But seriously, if you have AGP, save up and buy a new computer. If you have PCI-E, then get the 512Mb 880GT.

I was about to post but then saw you had AGP...

There's no point in upgrading. Save teh muneez and buy a new computer later on.

And don't complain about a 6800, I've been playing BF2 the last 2 years on a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Ya, may I recommend??
Given that ur processor is fairly good, I'd look into whether you can have PCI or even PCI-E. If so, then get at least 512 mb ram for ur GFX. I'd personally recommend a SLI, but if your sysbus can't run it, then go for just a standard 8800.
My comp is over a year old, running 7950 GT SLI 512mb--it was fairly pricey, but def. worth it (Crysis @ max!! ftw!) so it's prolly gone down a fair bit (i'd guess no more than $150.)
If you've got AGP, don't despair. You can get some good 256mb cards, although you won't be able 2 run Crysis @ max

Either way, make sure the clock speed is high; that's the main thing.
I like pie.
