Looking for a soundcard

And I have no idea where to start. I had an Audigy SE but it wasn't good for gaming, all my sounds would be crackly or stuttered.

Any recommendations? I see everyone has cards that have something to do with X-Fi.

Only because I can't find the "xtreme music" one.. that one's cheaper
