I really hope this goes through, because if you ask me, "free health care for all" does not mean this.

Now my Mom recently had that same operation, for about half of that. And she did not have to wait too long. About 2 weeks. So how do we sell universal health care to the US, when stuff like this happens.....even though you all say it doesn't.

Earlier this year, the European Health Commissioner, Markos Kyprianou, spoke of a patient who had claimed 100,000 euros (£71,000) in compensation, when the hospital itself was worth only twice that amount.

Who pays for that?... WTF?

Why some are refused health care because they can't afford it? One of my all-time favorite musicians, Chuck Schuldiner, founder of the band Death died of cancer simply because he was refused any treatments because he once had a 75000$ hospital bill that he couldn't not afford.

The universal plan has its flaws, yes, but it is still better than "we'll fix you if you're rich". I don't have to sell my house to get health care. Actually, my mom went to the hospital about a month ago, and she waited about... 5 minutes, and stayed there for 5 days, for free, with a room, food, and TV.

Paid by all of us, with our income taxes. But still free. They don't hand you a bill, nothing. You walk in the hospital, and walk out. Or a friend of mine who got hit by a car, lost both legs, he spent months and months in the hospital and it cost him nothing.

Same in the US. You can go to a public hospital and get treated. Illegal immigrants do it all the time.

It's just that instead of using our money to pay for nukes and bombs and guns and ships and planes and whatnot, we use it to cure our own folks. We help each other. The system is not perfect because some abuse of it, but I wouldn't trade it far any other system.

Up North in icy cold and snowy Canada.

Even myself, I went to the hospital last year for a checkup, I went through a battery of tests, from blood pressure, to aids, to allergies, diabetes, cholesterol, and XRays (oooh fun), the whole works... just to know where I was at after 28 years here, and once I was done, I walked out and went home.

Well its kind of hard to pay for universal HC when you have to pay for the health care of millions of illegal persons.

And I have family who live around Niagara Falls on the Canada side. They still come to the US for all of their surgeries.

Meh, still... If I ever need major surgey, or need to get my head glued back on or whatever, I don't have to worry one bit about if I have enough cash to pay for it. I can have both arms and legs re-attached and I won't have to sell my house for that.

Then the taxes would be much higher I suppose. I am more than happy to pay for my health care. After all, I do the damage to myself by eating shit ass food and drinking booze, why should the taxpayer have to pay for that?

Because he would do the exact same for you. You pay uncle sam so he can build nukes, but I'd rather pay to help a poor fellow getting health-care than pay to fund war. I am sure you'd prefer to have a 0$ hospital bill than a 85000 one, pretty much sure of that.
