I had XP (32 bit) installed on the C partition of my harddrive, and XP (64 bit) installed on the D partition. The 64 bit version is working fine and I had the 32-bit as a backup, but now that I've got everything installed and working, I want to get rid of the other operating system, and reformat the partition so that I could use that space.

I tried reformatting the partition via Windows XP, but it wouldn't let me (probably because there was an OS on it). So I put in my install disc in the computer, boot from CD and then delete the C partition.

I quit the setup and reboot, and now it's telling me it can't find an operating system, when there is one on the D partition!!! Right when I thought everything was working perfectly, this happens... I just spent the last 48 hours installing/updating everything, drivers, etc., getting all my settings fixed, and I finally got everything ready to go...

Any suggestions?

(By the way, this HDD is SATA, and on my old computer [the one I'm on now] is IDE only)

i believe you need to set the D as the C

windows only boots from C (i think)

you D would be set as slave and you need to set it as master

How do I go about doing this? I only have one HDD, each OS was on a different partition. I tried checking the BIOS as well, to see if I could boot from a different partition, but I couldn't find anything.

When I would boot with both OS on, it would give me a choice of which to boot. Plus one of my friends said that for a while he was running Windows that was installed on an E drive, and it would be recognized as E.

Is it possible I just massively screwed something up by deleting that other partition?

I'll definitely try opening up my computer and messing with the jumpers on the HDD though. Thanks

boot into the recovery console and type
fdisk /fixmbr

see if that helps
