You cannot join the Seals.  Its not like something you sign up for instead of the Marines.

If you are interested in that type of envirment go for the Marine Corps.

They have the longest Boot Camp and stress Marksmanship through out your career.

Every Marine is a Rifleman period.

I admire your spirit in saying joining the SEALs is the equivilant of joing a branch of service.

http://www.sealchallenge.navy.mil/seal/ … rview.aspx

Will give you all the information you need.

I hope you realize that about 20% of those accepted make it through training to earn a Trident.

Being accepted is extreamly competetive within the community.  They are literally some of the best athletes in the world.

Mind you, once you sign the SEAL Challenge you're property of the US Navy for 4 years no matter what.

You are then given a job that suits the needs of the Navy.

Go Marines if you want an infantry MOS start out and work you're way to USMC Recon.

Every bit as tough and as capable as any other Special Operations force.

Here's a SEAL Officer talking about USMC Force Recon :

http://www.specialoperations.com/Focus/ … s/Navy.htm
Another senior retired SEAL officer:

Tom: I wouldn't begin to say that either unit is "better" than the other.
FR is better at what they do than we are, and the SEALs are better at what they do.
Missions are comparable, except FR go farther inland than SEALs and don't use the airborne entry method as much as SEALs do (or plan to do).
SEALs are better in the water (naturally), and FR are probably better at conducting ops over long distances over the ground.
Also, SEALs have a significantly better waterborne capability for the simple reason that they
have more and bigger boats.

Those arent that bad. I mean im sure thats not the specifics and they bust your nuts and your dead tired but I mean from those numbers, statistically, I could be in the Navy Seals.

Now do that once every 4 hours, for a week straight, with no sleep, one meal a day, after sitting in near freezing ocean water for a couple hours.

Those numbers are decent for regular Army.
A joke for Ranger.
A warmup for SEALS.

That's actually below standards for a 54 year old retired Army Ranger I know, come to think of it.
those are minimums too. most guys, because they're so competitive do something like

I have a family friend that is a SEAL now. . . . He was in the Marines first then applied and became a SEAL.  I can answer some questions about the SEALs, but by no means am I an authority.

Both outfits are great, but you have to be in the Navy (or branch of the Navy) for at least two years and have the recommendation from your CO to even apply for SEAL training. . . . just an FYI.  Btw the Marines now have their own branch of special forces!!! Force Recon was the Marines special branch but as of Feb of 06' have activated a few new special Marine special forces units. I believe Force Recon is still around, but the Marine Corps now has MARSOC which is the new special forces command under SOCOM.

My buddy has served in Afghanistan since the beginning of Enduring Freedom (was one of the first SEAL teams into the country). Was wounded in Iraq last September, has served multiple tours in both countries.  Mike is currently with his unit in Saudi Arabia and has been training with an SAS unit since he got back from Iran (YES he was in Iran. . . ) 4 months ago.

Got your karma thanks!

Mike doesnt go into op details with me at all, I get the info from my father who is best friends with his father.  In fact I havent seen Mike in a year cause of his injury and current deployment.

Here is the article of the SEAL that died saving my buddy Mike http://www.fumento.com/weblog/archives/ … bute.html.  Mike sustained shrapnel wounds to his thigh and knees, he had to have surgery and probably will never get some of the shrapnel removed.  He was in rehab till January of 07' then went back to Saudi Arabia with his team to retrain.  Then when all the hostage shit happened with the British Royal Marines he was then deployed into Iran in tandem with SAS teams.  You can imagine what they were doing there. . . .

I just edited the page cause the first link i gave was bad.  My buddy Mike is in the bottom pic!!! I believe he might be in the top pic as well!!! Crazy shit huh! Mike is a crazy muther fucker!! His dad said that funeral was the saddest service he has EVER been to in his life.  My buddy Mike was in a wheelchair during the whole thing!! I'll ask my dad if his dad has any pics of the funeral.

That's probably too big of a life choice to leave up to us here forum posters.

Do some research, go to a Military careers office and get some CDs and Magazines as well as talking to people there.

Check out the link I gave, you can now get a "SEAL Challenge Contract" straight from Civilian.

The Navy has also started a Pre-Seal course that's mandatory.  What most be the most interesting to the OP is the new SWCC program.

I'm going to post a link to the forums but please, just lurk & read.  If you're going to post be sure to read their rules carefully. Seriously.

River ready
Navy expeditionary plan seeks ‘sailor with a bayonet in his teeth’

By Andrew Scutro
Times staff writer

The Navy wants in.
Naval war planners have been ordered to build a riverine assault force that’s capable of taking the fight directly to insurgents, upriver from the sea.

Those orders come from the top.

In the works right now are three riverine warfare squadrons; a battalion of Marine-like naval infantry; a civil affairs battalion; detachments to train foreign navies; teams to exploit information gleaned in maritime interdiction operations; foreign area officers who specialize in certain cultures and regions; and various enhanced intelligence and identification mechanisms.

Roll it all together, and it’s a Navy for fighting insurgencies from fresh water or close to it.
