Anyone know where I can get a cheap GMAW Welding machine? I checked on the Miller website, and the lowest price is $800, and I don't wanna shell out that much money just for some past time fun.

I'd prefer Miller, but I don't know if I can get one for $200-$300.

Yeah, I want a small machine like that, nothing massive. I don't really trust eBay, and since I'm not 18, I don't have a credit card, so I doubt my parents would even buy one from eBay. Thanks for the input though marine.

Lincoln Electric also makes good welders. If you are just looking for something around the house the 120v units are nice. You can plug it in anywhere, take it to someones house or run it with a long extension cord. Using different techniques I have welded 1/2" thick mild steel without issue on these small machines.

I have a Lincoln Pro-Mig 135. Buying a tank is worth the money, mig+gas welds much nicer than flux-cored. I paid around $400 for mine from Lowe's. An auto-dark helmet, even the cheap Harbor Freight ones, are worth every penny if you plan to weld often.

Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Electric all make quality welding machines. The more you spend the better machine you get, but like I said the 120v machines are pretty nice if you are not welding over 1/4" thick too often.

BTW you don't need a credit card for eBay, unless it changed, you just need a checking account.

So like these Miller and Hobart machines, do you just get the machine, or do you get shielding gas as well? Doubt it

They usually include the equipment to use shielding gas, but you have to purchase the tank and gas separately.

Rubbish. eBay is trustworthy. They have to be, or they would get screwed.

If anything goes wrong with the delivery, object, you just send a complaint to eBay about the dealer and he is made to pay back and gets blacklisted on eBay. There is nothing wrong with eBay. Don't put problems where there are none.

Not true at all. People get ripped off on eBay all the time.
eBay and PayPal disputes are not as sure thing as you make them sound.
People do get ripped off. Item not shipped, item not as described, etc.

I would only buy used if I could test it first.
If you buy a "new" welder on eBay you may not have the warranty.
Many manufactures only honor warranties if the item is purchased from an authorized distributor, etc.

Maybe, if you are stupid enough to fall for a scammer. You can check peoples reputation and any bad comments against their name.

The feedback system is flawed because people do not always leave negative feedback when it is deserved because they do not want a negative mark on their feedback from the seller. I don't know how long you have been around eBay or others who use it, but trust me people do get ripped off and eBay and PayPal do not always side with the buyer during a dispute. I have personally only had one bad seller, but I know others who are not stupid and did not fall for a scammer, but a trusted eBay users who flat out lied and provide false documentation about shipments, condition, etc.
