Ok, this is really, really pissing me off.

Trying to watch a damn DVD, but like all other videos I try to play on my computer (not including streamed Internet videos), all I get is a black screen with sound.

Now, I would really appreciate someone helping me out with this problem... Cos it's really getting to me.

I have tried installing codecs and shit, downloaded this k-lite codec pack just now, still nothing.

Programs I've tried are Windows Media Player 10, DivX Player, VLC Player and Media Centre Player.

Please say there's a solution for this rather than a complete reformat...

Are there any drivers for your video card?
Maybe re-install some of these programs.

Has it always done this? Try a system restore. I had some newly created issues with the last windows update.

Try turning down your hardware video acceleration. I'm not sure where that setting is so go google it.

Can sometimes happen with cloned video. Although if you only have one screen that won't be an issue.

Most video on Windows plays on either the Overlay or the VMR (Video Mixing Renderer).  Both have colour controls for hue, saturation, brightness, and contrast.  Sometimes, depending on what you did at some point those values are lost and the video is playing but the brightness is zero.  Go into your video card's control panel and adjust the colour controls.  Sometimes just hitting the reset button solves it.

Sorted... I reset all my graphics stuff in the Nvidia Control Panel to defaults and I can plau this DVD.

Cheers all, you're stars.
