Hey guys its my first post in a while since I wrote the Vista Guide.

Well, I need some help building a new PC from the ground up.  I've already got the keyboard, mouse, and speakers left over from my previous PC. I have about $1000 to spend on a new one.  I don't know what to get. with the money.  I've always been an AMD and nVidia fan.  But I know times have changed to work Intel trumps AMD in performance.  I'm about to pull my hair not knowing what to do.  Mabey some suggestions for what to get or your guys experience with this or that could help... Thanks!!!

If you bought that already then you're gonna have a pwn system.
Only thing i would say is maybe go for a larger DD especially if you're gonna be running vista the price to upgrade is pretty small and you'll be surprised how quickly it fills up especially with the more recent game releases (just check out how big the demo for crysis is never mind the full game)

Someone has to say it:

Try and get the 8800GT instead of the 8600GT.

I had to change the case, memory, and monitor due to out of stock... lucky me...

Anyways now I am running a 19" 2ms viewsonic, different model of corsair XMS2, and a thermaltake case.  But I really do like the computer I picked out.  Its should play HL2 source games, BF2, and BF2142 just fine right?

Yes, it will play them fine.  But the difference between an 8800 and an 8600 is too big for words to describe.

Also if you're going for a 512m GPU or higher you'll definitely need a bigger PSU 550w minimum

I think a 500W is good enough for the 8800GT.  I ran a 5200+ 2GBs of RAM and a 7950GT 512MB on a 430W.
