Why do they do it? What status is attained in doing so? Is changing your name from something childish like dezerteagle5 to something as plain and ordinary as Mitch a sign of "maturity"?

Basically my question is: What are you lot trying to pull?

A question for the community: Does a name change that eliminates "childish" words such as "dezerteagle" and "leet" really make you see these members in a new, maturer light?

(No offense to anyone. This topic isn't about flaming, it is about what made some make a name change and what everyone else thinks of it.)

For some it's just a way to change a formerly childish forumname, for others to simplify or standarize usernames to match what they have on other forums.

I think the reasons for changing my name were pretty obvious.

I can understand that some people want a new 'identity' ... but it does make things confusing. Basically, this should apply:

Pretty much the exact reasoning I follow. Their are occasions where I break this rule (someone's old time account and they now go by a new moniker which is almost xfire case above). Generally speaking though, the above is followed.
