Well I posted on the temp forums about getting a new computer and from the responses there and further research I have come up with the below system, which I plan to purchase in about 2 weeks when I get back from a weeks vacation.

What ever is in green is pretty much what I've selected, but have also listed some alternatives.

Would you get the CPU and PSU separately or the combined deal? I really have no idea what makes a good PSU, so I don't want to just get the 750W one if its a pile of shit and was recommended the 550W one on the temp forums.

What I would like to know is will this system work and run the new games on all high settings with AA. Also can you recommend any better or alternative parts I can get check the prices for. I'll also be sticking with windows XP pro and using my Logitech X-530 speakers.

But what I'm having the most trouble with is Video cards, there are so many brands of the same thing and even different overclocked versions of the same thing and brand, and they differ in price by anything up to $200.

Does the Brand make any difference? Like:

Other questions include:

Is there any point to getting factory overclocked?
How much of a difference does factory over clocking make?
Is that difference worth paying for??
Can I overclock myself?
Is the GTS worth the extra $70-$100?
What would you Recommend?

I would go for the Seasonic M12 700W as PSU,and depending on how much money you're planing to spend.I would go for a E6750 instead of the Q6600.

the Gigabyte DS4 mobo is a good one (got it myself) can't comment on those others, and that GTS > GT. (of course so is the price)

also eVGA has a step-up program, if you're planning to upgrade the vidcard within 90 days.

that 750 watt PSU will be fine... no problems there... i cant really comment on the rest... the deal with PSU and CPU is a good deal but if u have got the money u can go for the E6750 as negerkungen said

The video cards are all the same. I bought BFG 8800GT at launch. It died after 2 weeks. Got a refund and bought Inno3D. £20 cheaper with GRAW2 along with 2 years warranty.
The BFG was OC version. The Inno3D is at stock, didn't notice a single change in FPS. You can OC yourself, by moving a slider. Take my advice and buy the cheapest version.

Yeah that is pretty much similar to mine, Silverstone is a good brand of powersupplie, and you should deffinatly get a 8800GT over a GTS, Inno3D is a very reliable brand other brands like EVGA and XFX are also good, and For the motherboard, if you have a little bit more money and you may wanna upgrade in the future, by getting another graphics card, for SLI, you should get a different Motherboard such as the Nvidia 680i, not saying the P5K-E is bad its that if you wanna upgrade in the near future, its better not to buy one now, then buy another (mistake that i did)

For the PSU, I checked the Seasonic one and it ends up about $100 more, but I'll look into it more. I've also been reading about he SilverStone one and it seems to have pretty good reviews, here and here, and on some other forums they said it had a good reputation, but I'll look further into it.

As for the CPU... are you sure you mean the E6750?
It is cheaper then the Q6600 but also doesn't perform as well (at least what I have read). I was considering the E6850, but thought for the extra $25 I would get the Quad core instead. If you did mean the E6750... why?

From what I hear SLI is a waste of money, and the performance gains are just not worth the money, and its much better to upgrade your existing card then buy a second inferior one. Also the 680i doesn't support RAID 5, which isn't a major problem but something I would prefer. For the extra $150 I really can't see much benefit especially as I wouldn't be getting a second video card for some time.

As for the Video Card, why would you get a GT over a GTS?

Switch to an X38 mobo and buy the GT. Although, some places are charing a premium due to the problems with supply (improving though) and, they can be pretty noisey fuckers at load. GTS runs cooler, and quicker, but obviously is more expensive, from my memory though, the benchmarks dont really justify the GTS imo. Less the new drivers have changed things, admitedly I havent looked much since the cards release.

As for SLI, it can depend, e.g if theres a special on, where your card is going at a ludacrisly low price you would be daft not to take it, and it can increase the life span of an existing system. But inevitably it is just delaying an upgrade. That can be a good thing though, depends what new gear is coming out.

If I where you, X38 board, asus probably, an eVGA 8800GT and your set.

A.T.M there's no game that support Quad propps,and the E6750 gives best bang for the buck.I mean if you just gonna use it as a gaming rig,the E6750 is a rock on propp.
But then again,that's just my 2 cent's.In the end,it's your money.

Definitely go the Q6600. Whats the point of buying a brand spanking computer that slays all your old games but doesn't support games to come?

Seasonic PSUs are extremely high quality, extremely quiet, and the 550 HT one you have has unparalleled efficiency. Since you save money on electricity bills if you use less electricity, the extra price will be negated by the lower power consumption.

I highly, highly recommend Evga for the video card, because Step-up is a great program, you get a lifetime warranty, and their customer service is really unmatched. I can honestly say I haven't had better customer service experiences than with Evga.

8800GT 512MB (And if you want to spend a few bucks more: 8800GTS 512MB it outperforms the 8800GTX sometimes, and it isn't that more expensive )

There was a one day special for an 8800GTS for $385 today, but unfortunately for me, they were out of stock when I got there .

Why is it too small? Well doesn't really matter now as I've already bought one for $145 today.

I think I'm pretty set on what I'll get next week when I get back from holidays. The only thing I'm still a little unsure of is motherboards. I don't think I want/need SLI, and would like to keep it under or as close to $200 as possible.

I checked the prices for AU and its around $286. I'm also no expert on motherboards, so what does it offer over the P5K-E that makes it $100 more?
