My first post

Could you please recommend maps where the impact of attack choppers and jets is less significant than on your average map? I play on land almost exclusively because I am not interested in being artied, redlined and teamkilled for aircraft. Besides I do not have any skills as a gunner or aviator. Currently I am playing Wake and Oman because these are maps that I know and that have several active low ping servers. (I am situated in Eastern Europe) However, I am a little tired of being shot to pieces by jets and TV missiles on these open maps. I am not fond of IO maps either.

I tried to search for such topics but apparently I am not good at it. Could you please point out such maps? I know of Karkand and Highway Tampa. I have SF and both booster packs. Thank you for your time and answers!

Try Great Wall. No air power, just good old plain tanks, APC's and transport. (on 16p the Chinese get a mobile AA).

Sharqi Peninsula, Road to Jalalabad, Mashtuur City.

They at least are awesome. Look for a city map server without IO.

Road to Jalalabad, Mashtuur City are your best bets. Jellysbad has no air support at all.

Jalalabad has no air support, but it's basically infantry being raped by tanks and nadespam.
Karkand has no air support, but is all strung out and linear, and is basically nadespam and tanks raping infantry.
Sharqi has a single attack chopper each side that pretty much decides the map, but it's squad-based infantry stuff and the tanks don't last long. Nice balanced map.
Mashtuur is a very mobile map, very contested, and the air support is transport choppers.
Dragon Valley I've been picking up latetly, and seems to be mostly armour, with plenty of AA to take out choppers and planes, armour at almost every flag, and lots and lots of area. It's also narrow enough and with two fighters each side nobody can get enough time to line up accurate attack runs. If you get bombed, you're likely to survive.

Depends if you wana rape up a city map or play armour properly really. Being a former armour loving maniac....a breakdown from my experience:

- FuShe, only 1 chopper per team and jets are harder to fly due to the canyons (and theyre fighters...not bombers). APC racing around the cliff paths is great fun.
- Tampa....do I need to explain?
- Songhua....completely forgotten about, as usual, is all APC's with 1 MBT per team, infantry and transport choppers. Fantastic map for armour.
- Operation Smoke Screen...if the enemy have retards in the choppers, then its all out tank action (14 MBT's...).
- Great Wall on 32size...4 MBT's and 4 APC's, no helis or jets. Only infantry on the ramparts with AT and Engis with AT mines to worry about.
- Operation Harvest...same as OSS, except one less attack chopper.
- Operation Road Rage...only AF bombers to worry about, so nothing too much with the amount of AA going around it.
- Midnight Sun is different, same "style" as FuShe except the choppers are more dominant. Good fun none-the-less.
- Dragon Valley can be kinda fun, choppers tend to go up against each other most of the time, and unless theres a good pilot in the air, a single bombing run wont take you out.
- Zatar....surprisingly good actually. Only 1 chopper on the whole map, which is contested for. 2 Jets per team, but they arent usually that effective.

Check out TV2 servers for most of those maps, they run them 24/7 and usually have at least 30 people on them. EF/AF maps, try BFGotland. Songhua you would have to specifically search out unfortunatly.

Other maps:

- Oman has a bomber and choppers...bad news.
- Daqing, same as Oman but even worse for armour (more helis)...and a bomber on each team.
- Kubra, same as Daqing.
- Dalian, choppers galore.
- Taraba, bombers on each team...but no choppers. However, open ground (similar to Tampa) means you are sitting targets.
- Clean Sweap...same as Oman, except a bomber jet on each team.

- Karkand, infantry raping.
- Sharqi...see Karkand.
- Mashtuur...see Karkand.
- Jalalabad...see Karkand.

SF maps...NO JETS. At all.
- Gator, forget about it.
- Ghost Town....see Karkand...but, choppers too. However, you can often shoot them down with the cannon as they tend to fly low.
- Devils Perch...good, but only APC's and AT is a problem.
- Leviathan, only 1 chopper and its view/range is restricted by nightfall.
- MassD....one chopper per team and they usually hunt out the armour first...
- Night Flight...one APC, and only for Insurgents. And, its the BMP. Not good if you wana play armour exclusively.
- Surge...same as MassD, except more tanks.
- Warlord...see Karkand.

I agree with every statement you made Snake, apart from this one. I have yet to see a tank whore that can completely dominate an entire enemy team on Warlord. If you're worried about enemy armor, cap Palace Security Office and Palace Second Floor as SAS and if you're on the insurgents side you can often bottleneck the SAS armor convoy near the main or side entry.

Plus, grappling hooks = very mobile AT players and with the RPG-7 tankers don't get a heads up of an incoming missile.
So unless your team has the skills and intellect of five year olds you should do fine on Warlord as infantry.

WOW! Thank you for the replies, especially Snake for the comprehensive and insightful overview!

Just for the record: I am not a tanker (I spend more time on foot) but I like to have ground vehicles around.

Welcome to teh forums! Yes, Mashtuur City, Sharqi, Road to Jalalabad are good maps.

But my recommendation, is to the BUY SPECIAL FORCES EXPANSION!! There are NO jets in any maps, and the maps make for much better games. Ghost Town is one of the best in my opinion. Warlord is great for infantry fights, and there are plenty of vehicles to get around. Mass Destruction is a great open map but you gotta watch out for good chopper pilots/gunners. Iron Gator can be a fun map as its all combat based on a USS Carrier.

Consult these to review which maps you wanna try:

Thats true actually, although I did stay in an APC by the TV station for an entire round, dying a total of 3 times and racked in about 45 kills a while ago
It depends on the enemy team, but Warlord does balance out the armour IF people go on foot and grapple up onto buildings and fire rockets down, which is out of the tanks LOS (unless it reverses for miles).
But then, you are still infy raping compared to the bigger maps.
