Definitely don't get the Logitech MX Revolution. I have it, and it freezes up on me.
I've got an older Mx518 and a Steel series 5L, and it's a good combination for me personally. I like a cloth-type pad, and this one was a gift along with some other Steel stuff.

MX518, unless there's a mouse out now that has more than 8 buttons. More assignable buttons on my mouse = good.
After careful consideration, I was planning on going with a G7 and a Razer mousepad, but the G7 is sold out and doesn't look like it's gonna be in mainstream production for a while. I think I'll be happier with a G5 anyways and a SteelSeries mousepad.
Here's the mousepad btw:

That should be a solid combo. Make sure to use the highest dpi and adjust the sensitivity in game.
Also...this link is invaluable for helping make your in game mousing as accurate as possible (it says it's for CSS, but the principles apply to all fps games):

I have a Diamond Razerback and really like it.
I use an old 3M Precise mousing surface and my gaming has really improved.
I have a 22" widescreen at 1680x1200 and MIGHT have to pick up my mouse once a day.

G5 bad bad bad bad
MX518 good good good good
Damn I need something to shock people every time they think about buying a G5, Pavlov's dog style.

I found a G7 on eBay. Gonna go with that.

Sorry...the G5 has always tracked smoothly and accurately for me. Been a great mouse with 1000x better feel than the Deathadder that I recently tried.
It's a solid mouse imo.

OMG there is a v2 of G5? where the fuck have I been? I love my G5, but always wished it had another side button! I like the razors, but are to small to comfortable use.
Oh btw, I now have a G5 for sale...[cheap]Will Ship![/cheap]

You can't just say that. You have to have proof that it is worse than the MX518.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

Since the G5 '07 update the MX518 is inferior.

-the G5 dpi increase from 1600-2000 is marketing bull, you can't even tellZimmer wrote:

-same with the frikin lazerz
-MX518 side buttons I believe are bigger, and I like their positioning better (slightly higher, further back)
-MX518 sensitivity buttons make more sense to be further apart, not right next to each other. When I was using a G5, I would sometimes accidentally hit sensitivity buttons I didn't want to while trying to change them in-game, not good. It's extremely easy to up the sensitivity with the layout of the MX518, which is that one that matters. If you're trying to get into a lower sensitivity then you're in a non-threatening situation, such as sniping or something.
-MX518 has an extra button even over the v2 G5, the most sexy knuckle button on the face of the planet. I set mine to close application, so I can very, very quickly get my desktop cleaned of various conversations/excess windows. I don't know what I would do without it.
Sounds like personal preference to me
I don't have those problems with my G5.

It's not that the G5 is a bad mouse, really. It's just that the MX518 is better, even if it is from an older generation. Everyone I know that has tried the MX518 and G5 likes the MX518 better.=6thAD=KJ43 wrote:

I have tried both. I like the G5 more.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

Well I've had an older 518 and I much prefer my newer G5 to it if that helps.
The newer 518 is a great mouse also and uses an optical sensor as opposed to the laser sensor in the G5. The optical sensor is supposed to be superior if you are into low sensitivity. But if you aren't all we are talking about here is shape and as far as I know the G5 and 518 are almost exactly the same.

What James has except the massive mousemat.

G5+ Razer Exact mat = win
Yeah, I told you!
Go with what I said!
Fusion also has the right idea!
