So I haven't played for two months, and decided to play again. However, I am terrible at it. Any infantry firefight, which I used to be able to win head on, I lose miserably. MY vehicle rounds were positive enough, but whenever I try to play infantry, I got owned. Could someone give me a couple quick hints on how to do at least marginally better in firefights?

Karma for constructive, useful answers.

you could just medic whore, if somebody dolphin dives you jump over them and finish them off, nade spam close areas.

Rush in a small group of medic fags with anti-tank shoot a rocket point blank if you miss finish them off with the DAO-12 or MP5.

I really don't know what to say actually.... just play some more and eventually it will all come back to you.

No don't take his advice. Just play sniper you will get marginally less deaths and claymores always win on karkand.

Just go play single player and practice with bots, when you get better then just go back to multiplayer.

My advice would be to start out as a medic and use the G36E, you'll win a lot of fights using that and you'll get points healing/reviving your teammates. Stay back when you're fighting and don't rush out into the middle of the firefight.

As you said you can't win the head on situations anymore - don't even try. Use your head to get yourself in a better tactical position before ever having to pull the trigger to rely more on your brains than your aim. It's a lot slower pace, but it will keep your kdr up.

Have you been playing other games? If you have just stick with it for awhile, I notice that whenever I play another FPS for, say, 10 hours without any BF2 inbetween, I have unconsciously forgotten the nuances of BF2 aiming and movement, and it takes a few rounds to get back in it.

Cover can save your arse most the time. Turn that corner, and that guy with the PKM will prone and you're not there. He'll get up and move, being inaccurate, and you can go back and shoot his face off!

That's definitely not karma-worthy. lol.

Now let me re-think. Here's what I do:

Always be on the move! Shimmy when proned, step over when crouching and strafe when standing up. Stay in one spot and you give them an easy kill. Also, don't go prone immediately. You're just presenting your little round head as a target. Crouch spam by standing, then crouching, so just tap and hold down CTRL (or rebind it to an extra mouse button, very handy).

CoD4, which is way different than BF2.

1. play medic
2. learn spawnpoints
3. try to stay in groups of medics, but always let them enter a room/flag/etc. before you (avoid high-traffic areas)
4. always know where your nearest cover is, and try to use it as much as possible (if you crouch or prone behind something, strafe right or left a little so that don't have an automatic shot on your head when you pop back up)
5. keep an eye on uav/spots/flags being lost
6. use an ak if possible
7. look at who's on the server before you join (look for noobs with bad kdr's)
8. sit up straight with your feet on the floor

that's all i can think of now. knowing where your nearest cover is and using it whenever possible is probably the most important thing in the game, so make sure to do that.

do not instaprone every time you see someone round a corner; it's a bad habit.strafe in CQC and you will beat 90% of your opponents because they either stand still and fire or prone immediately upon seeing you.

if you're playing IO and you kill somebody, lob a grenade on the body.2 more kills thanks to those paddle-happy medics.

the L85 is your friend.

the Type 88 is an even better friend.FM can attest to that.

This is the guy to listen to...

You said you used to be good, and its only been two months so its not like you forgot what the game is....what you are missing is that quick twitch reaction, as well as not being as instinctive with how much mouse it takes to point at something. It will come back if you keep playing but until it does it helps to play less Rambo then you did when you were up on your game. If your kinda sneaking it takes some of the reaction on your part out of it because your not getting surprised as often

if you suck, just try something else then come back. if you have been owned by the same people over and over...then they suck because of them playing with some AIMBOT.

Does using proper grammar make his comment ''flame'' to you any better? No, it doesnt.

Remember to ALWAYS prone and fire in short bursts. SPRAY= LOSE 3-4 good shots is enough with most rifles. Use the pkm. When fired in 1-2 shot bursts it is more accurate than any other non-sniper rifle I know, and it takes anyone out in a few chest shots. But you MUST be prone and MUST use your sights, as well as the necessity to fire 1-2 shots at a time.
