I had done this topic before:http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=86063
I was told to wait until after Christmas for the sales. Its Jan 9th so I figured it was time.

Need these things, budget is $1500, can afford a little more if necessary:

CPU: Intel, one that will last and be powerful.
PSU: Powerful one, dont wanna have to worry about this.
Case: No need for a PSU as I am buying this separately, dont care what it looks like, preferably good cooling in it.
GPU: nVidia, powerful, I am willing to sacrifice on this to keep within budget, would really rather not though, it will be at least a year before I can get a better one, must be DX10.
RAM: At least 2GB, probably more like 4 if thats recommended, I also doubt I will be able to upgrade this for a year or so.
Sound Card:Not sure if this is really needed, guess I can drop this, if it can be fit in budget then thats good, I heard this improves the performance as the CPU or something like that doesnt have to do the sound.
Motherboard:Something that can hold all this stuff....
Monitor: Flat Screen, LCD, 17 inch is fine, 19 is great, no bigger, preferably not widescreen.
Operating System: XP or Vista, what should I get? Can XP support DX10?
HDD: One about 120GB, 7200RPM, use this for all, if I still have the extra money, or if it HIGHLY recommended, I can maybe throw in another that is 10,000RPM, that would probably chop out some other part, not something I really wanna do.

Just a copy and paste from the other topic to clean things up:
So I got about 1500$ to build a computer, maybe I can go up to 2000$, not sure. Anyways, I used to pay attention to tech stuff, stopped that about a year ago, cant remember much. Im looking for a computer that will last, I wanna get a good CPU, PSU, case, motherboard, and probably RAM, dont wanna end up having to replace these things for at least a year and a half, I realize that video cards usually have to replaced more often, Id really rather put it off as much as possible.

Id love to play Crysis maxed out, while I know that is impossible with pretty much every computer, I heard there are ways you can self optimize the game easily or something like that. Either way, I want the best I can get for my money, and since the only thing Ill probably be able to to replace will be the GPU and the RAM, I want the rest to have good qualities, last me 1-3 years.

PS: Im a Intel and nVidia fanboi.

PSS: When does the G92 come out, I searched but couldnt find anything.

Things Chosen:

HDD:WD 500gb Caviar

Operating System:Vista Home Premium 64 Bit OEM

Monitor:Samsung 19" 5ms

Motherboard:Gigabyte X38

Sound Card:Creative Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

RAM:OCZ Titanium 4GB

GPU: EVGA 8800GTS 512MB

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Cas

PSU: SILVERSTONE SST-ST75ZF ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS12V 750W Power Supply

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor

I'll put something together later for you as I'm way too tired now but I just wanted to tell you I have a little piece of advice, if you want a graphics card for a top-end system playing Crysis smoothly you will have to wait for the new cards to launch... Yes I'm sorry but go with a top-end card from the current market and you will find yourself slapping yourself on the forehead over the entire next year cause you can't upgrade it. Sure it will manage games well but you want top notch and especially for Crysis you'll have to wait.

XP 64 bit can support DX10, but Vista would be better, compatibility wise.

I cant wait next year. I can wait a month, max. Let me say, MAX. Im already pushing it asking for it now, this was supposed to be Christmas present, if I dont get this soon, I aint getting it.

Let me explain the urgency of the situation....
My current computer consists of:
RAM: 512MB
CPU: 2.4GHZ Pentium 4
GPU: Nvidia 5200
Sound: Onboard
PSU. 185.5 Watt. Im amazed I havent fried anything.
HDD: 60GB at about 1RPM. It takes exactly 8 minutes, 58 seconds for my computer to get completely booted up.

Hell, I couldnt even run BF2 above 20 FPS after patch 1.2

BTW thank you Funky, I will get Vista, I was leaning that direction anyways, just afraid that some of my previous games will not be able to use it. Should I get 32 or 64 Bit?

What's wrong with a P4 2.4Ghz, motherfucker? xD

To answer your question, it's basically a matter of preference. Vista 64 is better in some respects (unknown to me) but has not as many drivers that will be supported by it as Vista 32 does.

Take your pick and hope for the best

Nothing at all, I love the thing to tell the truth, have it over clocked to 2.8. On the subject of OS's I'll probably go read up some(if I can understand the language) on the subject. I know how to take a computer apart, I can put one together, I did it once drunk, but I cant figure out how to understand the language.

Yeah, taking them apart and putting them together is quite easy, just go by the rule "If you have to force it, you're doing it wrong." Goes with life, too

I thought that was gonna be the 8900 and it was gonna be dual 8800Ultra's, kinda like the 7950? Anyways you have any date on that? I was Googling around for both cards and nothing was showing up.

G92 is already out, on the 8800GT and 8800GTS 512MB cards. I must stress that you should get and Evga model, because the step-up will cover you against any new cards this spring.

My bad. Thought G92 meant the 9000 series. Umm, what do you mean a step up? And what of those cards do you think I should buy?

Evga has a step up program which basically means buy a card from them, register it at their site and when a new model comes out within 90 days of purchase you can pay that little difference in money and return your current evga card and get the new one from them. And dont get the 8800GT or GTS if you can wait for the new card.

Thanks for the list, Im gonna use the Case, DVD, and I dont know what else. Problem isl I gotta fit a monitor in their too.

New thing, I can hit maybe $1800, turns out I what I thought were gift cards are disposable credit cards.

Ty for the HD, if I got the cash left Im gonna use that, probably gonna chop it down to a 7200RPM. Try to save some cash.

About the CPU, remember, Im gonna be stuck with this for the next 4 years. Is that good pick, I will chop out other stuff, aka not even buy it if need be.

I love the RAM, if possible, go up to 4GB, if not, Ill buy another 2 later and throw it in.

PSU, is 800w over done? 700w better?

With the 8800GTS...is that really the best choice? Should I get something else, not talking price here, but lets not go crazy, 750 or so here is considered a lot.
