I doubt he was drunk. Heavy rain in the dark causes erratic cycling.

Still, you didn't stop? That's something that really annoys me about drivers. They shove you off the road and then it doesen't even occur to them to stop their metal death-machines to see if you survived or to offer to pay for the tire they just caused you to shred on the broken glass at the side of the road.
why would you stop, so he could steal your metal death-machine?
Becuase he might be hurt?

Nobody has any compassion for cyclists these days. Used to be that people stopped for a fallen cyclist. Now, everyone just drives past ignoring you, and the only people that stop and offer to help with a flat tire are other cyclists.
It's stupid. A coupla years ago I was almost killed by an idiot pedestrian shoving me off into a wall, and his only reaction to being confronted with an angry cyclist bleeding profusely from a head wound he'd just caused was to remark grumpily that I should've been on the road, and not on the pavement avoiding being squashed by school-run traffic. I would;ve punched him, had my glasses not been all but destroyed by the wall I hit.
