So yeah I'm pretty much in my last year of school (possibly) and I haven't really yet decided what to do, I know I wish to join the military, always did and was fascinated with it for as long as I can remember - so well finally I'm almost done with school and can do what I always wanted to. Though there's still a matter which I haven't decided yet.

After this year I'll be capable of going to the military academy for NCO training (Non commisioned officers, sarge etc) however I could also go 1 more year to school and get edu to become a real officer.

Now, why I'm doubting is because I'm totally sick and tired of school, I detest it so to speak and wish to feel usefull to society, and actually do stuff I like to do. However my elder brother tries pushing me in the direction of 1 more year at school while he thinks I'm more than capable of doing it, and should be able to do it with ease.

Now the branch which I wish to join is the airmobile brigade (I can get through the selection no worries) and hopefully to get in the KCT (dutch commando's, the SF) one day. Whereas I'm too young (minimally 20 for that) and probably not capable of getting through their selection process yet, I figured the Airmobile Brigade is the best way to try and step up towards the SF.

The main problem is that my motivation for school has dropped far below a negative level, I just can't get to work anymore. I actually got scolded because of that by my mentor because he said I should be able to get A's for every subject with just little effort. (I don't like to brag but it seems to be the case I have an intelligence apparant to others). But I really just can't get myself the motivation to make homework anymore.

Though some teachers, and a few classmates told me that if I don't have the motivation and I'm satisfied with just this year I should go and join the military. Altough I'm not so sure what would be more usefull and if it would really have a major effect if I wouldn't do that 1 painfull year more.

So here I am on Bf2s asking you people to help decide what I should do, because I hardly can. So pick and explain your choices please.

Opinions of proffesionals are most welcome.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Sounds a lot like me.

I'm guessing Air mobile Brigade is an airborne unit? Yeah, sounds exactly like me.

Basically an infantry division from the army and a couple of helicopter units working togheter to make some sort of mini army, they're a force that can be positioned anywhere in the world in less than 20 days. I'm going for the infantry and hope to become a SLA (Dutch for Long Distance Shooter) So I can have the option to become a sniper in the SF.

and do you think that you would still want to do this if you had never played bf2?

Exactly what I'm planning on doing. Wow.

Go for it, don't let anyone put you down. I've got a few family members that did the same (Special forces/Paras/Both) and they have no regrets. One has finished his service and works for a security company in Iraq and is on £90 000+ a year.

I wanted to long before I knew about the existance of BF2, as I said in the first post, I've been fascinated with the military as long as I can remember.

Yeah, Uruzgan province mainly. I'm the first in my family actually to enroll in the army in a 1000 years time, but I'm not only child either. I wish to join and also know the risks, if you want to join the armed forces but never wish to be sent to war you shouldn't join in the first place, and probably wouldn't get through the selection either. Anyway ; maybe you'll see a chance to join them one day.

Everyone's in Afghanistan. And you can't compare pay with civilian jobs because Food, Drink and accommodation is heavily subsidised.

I do want to join forces, and i DO want to go to war, but diffrent things come into my way, im thinking Canadian forces cause they would pay more than my Pakistani Army but the thing is, religion....im quite religious and I wouldnt want to be sent over to Afghanistan and have to combat people of my own faith (even though they are extremists which is probably prohibited in Islam).....thats a big factor for me....If I do join forces...regular not reserve...do i chose where i can be deployed? such as UN Force in Kosovo or Afghanistan, or its just they send you and you cant do anything about it?

When the higher ups give you the order to go to this and that place, you go to the place they want you to. Desertion will be punished, pretty hard. You never get to choose where you go unless you're one of the general staff, then basically you get to decide where people go.

I voted the second option down. There's supposedly better camaraderie between soldiers then there is soldiers and officers.

Possibly, yes. But not nessecarily, depends on the officer mostly, and to how long people are stationed with eachother. Ofcourse if you get a new commander you're not really friends from day one. Personally I'd think it doesn't matter that much, but it is a possibility.
