How to open "explorer"

Was playing COD4, and tabbing out at the end of rounds to surf the forums, and when I went back in I got a major drop in FPS, I mean like 5 FPS at the most. So I tabbed out and hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and clicked processes, to find out what was eating up my ram, I thought that would be the problem. Closed explorer, as it was using up 100,000 kb of memory. I closed it without reading that it was explorer, and my task bar disappeared, all icons, etc. It didn't solve the problem, so I hard rebooted.

For future reference, if I be a complete idiot again, how do I start up explorer without reboot?

I MEAN EXPLORER.EXE

Hit Control, Alt, Delete. Click "New Task...". Type "explorer".

He was talking about exploring your computer, as in the thing you look through your files with.

If you have explorer.exe running as a process pressing Windows+E will launch it, if you don't have it running as a process it won't work, hence why nothing happened for you.
