"Upgrade" Help.

Apparently there is no such thing as a BTX PSU now and my 300watt isnt really cutting it anymore. Neither is the crappy BTX heatsink that cannot be replaced. Ive decided to buy the case Im planning on buying for a new PC and just throwing my old crap in it until I can afford a new computer. Ill need a new motherboard and Im not entirely sure what would suit me.

Current shitspecs

Pentium 4 Prescott 3.4 GHZ Socket 775LGA (reusing)
2x512MB DDR400 SDRAM (trashing)
Western Digital Caviar 250GB HD 7200RPM (reusing)
DVD burner (reusing)
CD drive (reusing)
300W BTX PSU (blowing up)
7600GT (reusing)

I doubt any decent motherboard will support DDR SDRAM anymore so Ill just buy 2GB of DDR2667 (or 800) as it will be cheaper than 2GB of DDR 400 anyway. Im planning on this case, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811133021 and a Freezer7Pro heatsink for the CPU. All I need is a decent PSU and motherboard preferably under or exactly $100. The motherboard just needs to last me with what I have until I can get a new PC in a few months. Any help with that?

Also somewhat related. My 7600GT fan stalls whenever I put the side door back on the case, whats up with that? It runs fine with the case door open but if I put the thing back on it dies.

Freezer7Pro heatsink is cheaper since Im not cooling a monster here, just a pentium 4 chip. I dont need a 620w PSU either, a 450-500w will be fine. I might get the ADATA RAM though.

At this date and time, you really should go for a higher PSU. You'll eventually want to upgrade that 7600.

At this date and time, you really should go for a higher PSU. You'll eventually want to upgrade that 7600.

I doubt I will upgrade the 7600, it can run every game out right now and it works fine for me. I dont want to shell out a fortune, just to get this thing somewhat updated.

He can get a 7900GTX on a 450-500w PSU. It's not like he's gonna buy an 8800GTS.

then he should be ok with Corsair HX520. and put the money he saves to something more useful. The 520w Corsair has no troubles powering Q6600, 8800GTX,... rig so there is plenty of room for everything but not 9800GX2, which needs +520w PSU. HX520 is one of the best PSUs I have used and it is total pwnage like it's big brother HX620. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH. for that money you get a PSU that will last a good while compared to some crappy ones. (that are loud, can die when they want and give unstable voltages which can in long term damage your hardware)

Maybe I didnt word it right or something. I dont need any of this to last. Just to be able to use my PC without it being incredibly slow for the next few months. I dont need an ultra powerful PSU, ultra powerful memory, or anything. More than anything I really just need a motherboard that will work, and a good external HD thats not too expensive with 160GB of space on it since ive picked everything else out.

BUT you can use the Corsair PSU for your new rig. That's what we are saying. no need to buy two crappy PSUs when you can buy one good.

why not spend a few $$ more so it CAN last into your next build otherwise your gonna buy the same part's twice. i think we are all just trying to save you money in the long run,plus getting you parts that are not crap

yeah. I know rams that cost +300$ and those will eat the 106mhz ram for breakfast but they cost too much for him. I do know quite a lot about memory. The point is he DOESN'T have the money for the micron chips... I do not have the money to buy the best components. By the time I do have money for a new build I will be going all out so I wont reuse anything but the case. Ive got about 300 to spend, 350 at the most. I dont have anything more than that, and I dont want to spend money on good components, only cheap decent shit that will get me by without falling apart on me. All I really need now is a motherboard and good external hard drive. Im already set on what PSU and RAM im going to buy.
