you forgot the law of economics m8.
me and my best friend have been in the gaming business for a very long time. we used to break open the bank and blow a shit load of money on upgrades just to play awsome games like cod4 . we both have regular xbox and xbox 360 consoles/ games. and after all this time the xbox360 came out, it was no longer viable to go to newegg.com and grab every killer videocard/ dual core processor just for it to be worth zero 3 years later.
where i come from m8, gas is almost at the $4.00 US per gallon mark. food for thought for you
dude, the trick is buying just BEHIND the tech curve. of course youre sick of PC gaming if you have been chasing the state of the art. you could more easily finance a cocaine addiction than keep up with the tech market. you can always find an excellent gaming computer for under a thousand dollars if you research the parts. like right now, u could pick up a C2D + 8800GT rig for about that price and run any game you want, whether it be classics that are just coming out or from 15 years ago.
most non-gamers spend this much money on their computer (except get a piece of crap dell) and then spend $500 more on a console and game collection + controllers + gay accesories. so who is really saving money? or even worse, people will spend $2000 on an apple, then $500+ on their console collection (shudder). the whole consoles being more economical thing could only be true if u limited yourself to 3 games and one controller for the console and if you own a $500 computer. personally it annoys me that they repackage the home PC, call it a gaming console, and manage to convince people to buy two PCs when they only need one. half the time they are just exploiting the ignorance of the average consumer.
the simple in-home multiplayer format is the saving grace of the console. i give it that. too bad the internet made 4 person multiplayer seem a bit claustrophobic (and split screens are sad). and too bad an $800 plasma screen looks worse from 8 feet away on the couch (forget split screen) than my 19" samsung from 1.5 feet away in my desk chair.
