What's the range of acceptable cpu idle and load temps?

GPU temps?

anything below 40C is good.

GPU: anything below 45C

CPU on load, 50C?

Well, I couldnt tell you, my P4 Prescott PSU runs at 75c on a good day but sometimes reaches 85c when stressed. My 7600GT runs at 65-67c on idle. About 75c in a game.

85c? You could fry an egg on that thing.

As Airwolf said, anything below 40c is good. 45-50 isn't horrible either, but 60+ is VERY bad. Can damage your CPU in the long run.

As for GPU, 50c-60c is pretty good but of course the lower the better.

<70c load temp is good for modern CPU (C2D, X2). idle preferrably under 45c. Actually it is +75-80c that starts to make damage to CPU in long term.
and GPU, well, it depends on which one you have. mine has 90c load temps and it is good to go.

I would say 40-60C, idle-load.

But my CPU runs 30-47C now, thanks to this amazing Zalman.  It's overclocked from 2.2 Ghz to 3.0Ghz too.

GPU temps: Mine's at 48C right now, idle.  It goes up to about 80C max under load.

If you're concerned about your own, you can look up the specs for your chip which will let you the acceptible temp range. Most manufacturers have that info on their website, but usually it takes a bit of digging to find it.

Odd thing is I can touch the heatsink and it feels slightly warm, it doesnt burn me.

That's the heatsink, of course it doesn't burn you.  Take off the heatsink and touch the GPU/CPU.  GPU if you really want a strong burn.

If I took the heatsink off, the whole thing would burn a hole into the case.

Exactly.

edit: well, in reality, the CPU would power the whole system off as a failsafe measure.

Idles in 20's to 30's, rarely reaches anything higher, unless under complete full load. (CPU fan would turn on at that point) C2D @ 3.6GHz  GPU Idles @ 58 degrees, usually 64 under load.

Yeah I have the E6750 @ 3.0 GHz, highest I've seen it go was 51°C under full load. And my 8800GT went up to 80°C. Thanks for all the replies!
