Tell that to Anna Nicole Smith..... oh wait, she died.

Marriage should be open to anybody who wants it.  Is tradition really so important that it overrides others desires for happiness?  Divorce rates are huge these days , so I don't think the concept of marriage is all so sacred anymore...
I don't really follow celebrity's so I'll miss that part out...

I'm just wondering what happiness you get out of marriage if you don't love the person you're marrying? Or if you do love them why you need to get married.

Marriage includes many rights... erm... go wiki them, I cba. You don't necessarily have to get married if you love someone. I've heard of people who were together for 10 years (so far) and still haven't married... It helps, financially, to get married - but usually it's not a smart idea to get married before your mid 20s...

I'm against it. It's marriage, and it's a tradition - between men and women. I don't care what they call it - just not marriage. And I think they should have every right that a married couple has, except to adopt children.

Yes, I'm conservative in that way.

Know what else was a tradition? Slavery. But we seem to have gotten past that.

Well we have to draw the line somewhere, or we'll end up with this.

Anna Nicole Smith married some multi-billionaire (I think it was billions, could be millions) right before he died so she could inherit his fortune.  True story.

I agree with your understanding of marriage.  You should love the person you're married to.  I think people get married because it's just socially acceptable.  They could just as easily live together without being married, but something about marriage makes the relationship more meaningful.

Point taken.  Limit marriage to between humans... although I assumed that was already an unstated understanding.

Whatever you do behind closed doors is your own buisnuess; have fun. But marriage is a tradition from straigh people. gay people getting marigge is not a real marriage. Thats why its called gay marriage. They can call it something else, get their forms, and be done.
And no adoptions.

Marriage is a way of affirming your love for someone else.  By getting married, youre saying "I love you and we share something special between us that no-one else has".  I guess thats what makes it more meaningful.

Well, if it doesn't work out, it's often financial suicide to get divorced (for men anyways).

Its not really a serious argument, if you see my other posts, youll note that Im not against legal gay partnerships, i just dont think they should be equal to marriages.

But its probably not that far fetched to think that it could one day progress to someone marrying their pet.  You know what they say, a dog is a mans best friend.  Or in this case, his goat is

The "religious ceremony" excuse is bullshit IMO... separation of church and state. If you wanna live in a country where the laws are dictated by the nation's religious views, i hear Air Iran's got cheap tickets these days.
so, when did he propose anyways?

Thing is, atm it's more socially acceptable to marry a cow than another person of the same sex. Disgusting. I think neither should be allowed - just rename it. Marriage is for one man and one woman. You can have a Union for homosexuals. And for those who fuck animals... erm... shotgun shells?

I love how the strongest argument against gay marriage is that the dictionary says otherwise and that it makes people feel that their marriage is somehow less special. Did marriage not exist before dictionaries?

People are so butt hurt over gays marrying that you'd think that they were the ones taking it up the ass. Seriously, why do you care? It's not like their marriage would affect you in any way. At all.

People are way too petty.

It's just something that bugs me. Call it anything else, and I won't care. Same rights, for all I care, same ceremony. But marriage simply is and has always been a bond between a man and a woman. Even in greek times, where you had homosexuals everywhere, openly.

We're not going to die if gays marry or even if the legal version of regular marriage is expanded to accept gays.  We're just pissed at their ethics in arguing.  They're too lazy and selfish to just have their own thing (I think "unions" were offered but rejected for no reason other than making the hetero one "modified" for them).  This is what pisses me off.

But otherwise, there are plenty of uber righteous members of religions who don't want gays to have ANYTHING.  I don't blame them because they do have their own religious convictions and beliefs, but they shouldn't impose their will on others..just like I can't...even if it is a total abomination beyond words.

Of course gay ppl should be allowed to get married even in a church if they wanted to, I don't care about religion anyway. In Denmark the none church crap is called registered couples...they got all the same benefits as married hetero couples (I don't know what the benefits are though but they got them)

Separate state and religion and let gay couple marry if they want to.

Gay marriage is allowed.  Not in Texas though.  We have a ditch and a fence.
