Marriage is a religious ceremony.  Right or wrong, you can't force a religion to sanctify (that's a religious term) a union they don't allow or approve. It's like complaining Jews don't eat pork or Hari Krishnas don't eat meat or (devout) Muslims don't drink alcohol. That's the religion, you can't pick the bits you like.

I have no problem with a civil union or similar legal standing. This would allow same sex couples who declare themselves life partners or some other inspiring term to have legal standing with property, pensions, etc.

But don't expect religions, or people generally, to blindly support something a lot of those people don't approve of.

Those genitalia hanging from the front are for one reason (well two with pissing) and that's procreating. Biologically we are programmed that way. No procreation equals no more kids (gay or otherwise).

Theologically, marriage is a union of a man and a woman (traditionally with the intent of then having children in wedlock, but that's probably outdated now). 2 men or 2 women does not equal marriage. It's something different!!!! it's like a man complaining he can't get pregnant. If you don't get the fundamental problem inherent in that .....

How can homosexuals say "We are different to you, in that we love the same sex, but we want to be the same as you by calling our civil union marriage"? They spend decades protesting they are different and want to have that accepted, but the first thing they do when they get close to that is want to be the same as heterosexuals. The irony is overwhelming. It's like all the hippies become greedy polluting stock brokers and Washington lobbyists.

There's an old saying - I may not agree with you but I will fight to the death for your right to say it. I may not like the fact of their sexuality, but that doesn't mean I have to smile when I support those rights legally and politically, or call it something it ain't.

And don't even get me started on gay adoption.

*shrugs* Well, I was thinking more along the lines of opening up immigration more in Europe.  You guys really need young immigrants to keep your economies afloat.

America needs them too, but we get almost all that we need from Mexico.

Thank you.  I have been trying to tell people this for years.  Give gays equal benifiets with their civil unions, but don't call it marriage, because that is not what marriage is by definition.

That makes sense to me.  The problem is that, under the current system, a civil union and a marriage don't have all the same benefits.  If we changed this to be the case, this could be another solution to this issue.

It seems kind of silly that terminology can be so touchy in all this, but I think both sides would relent if we took this route.

I think the only way to start a family is with a man and a woman: whether they adopt ar procreate is up to them.  But starting a family with two men or two women is wrong.  And when you start to talk about children, the desires of the parents become less important; it is what the child needs that matters.  And a child has the right to having a mother and a father.  So when homosexual people say they want to have a child, I say that its not fair on the child to raise them in that way because they deserve a mother and father.

They should accept tha being gay means not being able to have children.
