Hi!

a friend of mine just recently purchased Vista, though im not sure which version. anyway, i found this "dock bar" (if thats what u call it????) very nice as well as this glass see-through windows. is there a way of getting these features to work under XP Home Edition?

if so, could you please support me with a link and / or your own experience with using these features?

in case it matters, my specs:

intel core 2 duo (2.66 GHz)
500GB HDD
Asus 8800GTS 640MB
Gigabyte mainboard
4 Gigs of RAM (4 x 1024 DDR2)

if necessary i can specify these specs!

oh, and i did search but didnt find anything! if there is a thread about this already, im sorry!

thx!

Well, the Vista Transformation Pack 7 (And possible later releases) software does this job very good, but it requires a program called WindowBlinds to be installed for use of transparent windows. It costs about $20.

Note that these programs tend to use a lot of system resources.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Well, I'm assuming that you're interested in the Vista Sidebar, and the Vista Transformation Pack has one, and it's free. Only thing that would cost is if you wanna use transparency.

For transparency, there are really no good free options, sorry.

Oh, an you could always get your hands on WindowBlinds by... Alternative means

There has been someone who has actually pulled the vista sidebar and ported it to be used with xp.

i use it now on all my pcs and the best part is that you can use the vista gadgets you download from MS with it.  I use teh BF2Player gadget and it tracks my buddies and when they are online.  The whole website is gold when it comes to free add ons for xp.  So if you dont want to install the whole transformation pack and want to just have the windows sidebar this is it.

For the side bar, just use google desktop, just as functional than the side bar with vista: http://desktop.google.com/
