But, wtf!!!
British government officials stated that samurai swords will be added to the Offensive Weapons Order, making them banned by the end of 2007. This is in response to the fact that these weapons were used in more than 80 serious attacks in four years. [1] Those who violate the ban would be jailed up to six months and charged a fine of £5,000. Martial arts connoisseurs and people currently possessing genuine Japanese swords are, however, exempt from the ban. The ban, however, will now not be enacted until April 2008, where the purchase, sale and hire of these weapons will be made illegal.[2]

Longbow > All.

Long distance, able to fire massive volleys of arrows (using an army of course), armor-piercing capability took down knights from far away before they could reach them.

You just reminded me of the name of that game for Playstation one, I was trying to remember what it was called and now I remember, thanks.

I prefer either the one-handed longsword or the claymore (two-handed sword) myself.

I was thinking of a joke to go with that, but alas, my brain failed me. It's hilarious to see this embedded in someone's skull, gory movies ftw

Poleaxes are the most bad assed looking things in the medieval ages.

Sadly I cannot find a truly awesome example online.

No love for the Broadsword?

I gotta go with the particular version called the Claymore, as has been already noted.

Unique? No. Different? No. Some super cool thing nobody would have thought of? No. But, it's deadly fucking effective and that's why it's so standard. Everybody had one because when shit went bad, there was nothing like it:

Some kind of Japanese sword like a katana. They were always awesome in games.

No European sword could cut someone in half.  Europeans wore heavy armor, and their swords were made to be effective in armoored and uinarmored combat.  They could thrust and chop well.  Katanas, however, were by far most effective in unarmored combat.  They couldn't stab well, but they could slice like nothing else.  A katana in skilled hands really could cut people in half.  If I was fighting an armored apponent, I would prefferably use a lucern hammer.
