Well I think i blew out my graphics card and now I'm in the market for a new one.  I was thinking of getting a 8600 GT but I am concerned about overheating and power supply.  My current card is the 6800 GT so could an 8600 run on my comp if the 6800 can?

I am not looking for an ultra set up, just a single card but at the same time a step up from my 6800gt, dx10 would be nice.

Post some cheap solutions please!

Sorry It is AGP. And Lets say I max out at about 150$.

I have an open PCI slot though, I don't know if a card will fit.

My PSU is 250w btw.

250W?!?!?
That's really bad, man. You must be overloading it (depending on drives/HDD, etc.) Get a new PSU, if you want a new GFX card.

Yea, you might end up destroying your next card too with only 250W

I think I have a 550, and I can feel it bleeding every time I turn it on... Man, I torture my comps. Online power calculator recommended 650W.

350W powers a 6800 without problems.

I've ran a 7900GT, Prescott core CPU, 2 optical/3HDDs on 350w. The system would tun a little unstable under heavy load, though. 450w powered that system flawlessly.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

To be honest it doesn't matter if you can, what matters is that you have a bit of leeway so you don't have to be constantly expecting problems.

If there is one thing I have learnt about computers it is that skimping is a bad idea.

Wisdom.

Go here (at OP).

Thanks for the 100th karma, too.
