Well that's a relief, I find that with long ramblings come people skipping over the juicy parts.

How is Scientology really different though? I still don't see it. It's just a system of beliefs, the same as any other faith. As for ripping people off, well that's for them to decide. If someone believes in Scientology why the Hell should any of us try to destroy that belief? If they want to give their money to this organisation why shouldn't they? From what I understand no-one from the Church of Scientology is holding up people in the street and forcing them to pay money and believe in their faith. They get followers the same way everyone else does, publicity and preaching.

Every religion throughout history has been about two things - money and power. Scientology is no different. Why therefore, should we decide that it's suddenly a cult or method of organised crime simply because we don't necesarily agree with it?

Scientology is not a religion. It is a massive scam thought up by L. Ron Hubbard because he thought that he could make more money on a religion then on books. Many of Hubbard's inner circle were arrested for many different reasons, including a massive infiltration of the IRS which was ordered by Hubbard so that he would not have to pay taxes. Scientology also targets critics, labels them "suppressive persons" which means that upper-level Scientologists are to attack in various ways, mostly threats, black-mail and general coercion. Scientology is an organized crime syndicate under the guise of religion. Not only that but there is no real religion behind Scientology, no defined form of a god or anything like that. All it is, is a bunch of whack-o procedures that are too be preformed onto people that do either ass nothing or something quite harmful. Scientology forces its members to under-go these procedures and charge massive amounts of money to do so, it is estimated that it costs $300,000 USD a year, many people who have been caught up in Scientology go broke, then the "church" washes their hands with them and pretty much leaves them to go insane (which very many of them do).

Scientology is very dangerous, while most people are well informed of how crazy and harmful it is those who are not might fall victim to it. The only people who can benefit from it are the upper levels who know its fake and make money off of it and celebrities, who Hubbard said are to be treated much better than the average scientologist.

People should be allowed to believe whatever they want, xenu, jesus, flying spaghetti monster, whatever. I've got no problem with that. It's important to delineate between the beliefs and the church. (In fact, there is a growing number of people who follow the beliefs of Scientology, but have renounced any affiliation with the CoS). While the beliefs are harmless, the actions of the Church of Scientology, however, are very troubling.

Like I said, I don't like defending Scientology but as a tremendously unlikable person I do enjoy a good debate.

Scientology not a religion because it doesn't have a God figure? Nor does Bhuddism as such. Scientology as full of shit as it is seems to base itself aroud the Bhuddist notion of self enlightenment or as they like to call it, the "Bridge to Total Freedom". No doubt Bhuddists would be pissed off about that link seeing that Scientology is an extremely materialistic 'faith', but of course a Bhuddist would never feel that anyway would they?
Scientology is a religion. It has a system of beliefs, a church - everything that makes a religion is satisfied by the Scientology model. What people object to is the dark undertones of Scientology, not the faith itself, (I hope.)

Okay, I can't hold up this terrible pro-Scientology facade of mine any longer - Scientology is a fucked-up, money and power hungry cult of a scam of an organisation.
But so what? The only people who are so terribly harmed by this Scientology crap are generally those who are dumb enough to sign up for it in the first place! Scientology as a worrying force in the political world only extends as much as any other semi-powerful corporation or lobby group, it rips off it's worshippers about as much as any insurance company or car-yard, (or dare I say religion,) would and it treats it's non-believers with much the same or less contempt than most other religions. It's not as bad as what people here seem to believe and it's not a force to be concerned about. If it ever became a truely concerning force I bet you people and politicians would do something constructive about it - one thing that will get politicians to use their power is the threat of loosing it, that's why encumbant governments always pass larger amounts of legislation in an election year. Anonymous or anyone else will not effect Scientology with stupid internet pranks, we all know you can't even change someone's steadfast opinion over the internet so how the hell does one even expect to hinder something like Scientology with pointless E-warfare?

Scientolgy in due course will either shrink into insignificance or trip over it's own bravado and fall flat on it's face. As it stands now it is a organisation of sorts which bases itself around the premise of a religion or cult, (call it what you will, what word Scientology can be associated with is hardly important,) with a miniscule amount of political sway and a considerable amount of money which concernes itself more with celebrity affairs than with anything that would really matter to any of us.

Everything Docta states was in a British Documentary I watched on Scientology, it was made I think in the late 90's or early 20th. It has a reporter go in under cover with a camera and go through the various things they do. Also, there are many documents relating to the financial DESTRUCTION of a person submitted to Scientology.

Whoever posted "Well sure they get money, any church gets money" is completely MISGUIDED. So, how is the complete and utter financial destruction of a persons life because of Scientologists AT ALL equal with the money plate passed around only requesting a few donations to the Christian Church? Get your head on straight PLEASE.

This video is VERY disturbing as it shows the dead bodies of those who were lead to believe into the bullshit of Scientology. Financial ruin, insanity, suicide. I think this is very powerful, because these people were DIRECTLY influenced by Scientology, and look what happened to them.

*Note, I'm still looking for that Documentary I mentioned earlier...It was pretty damn good.

Religion - Set of common beliefs followed by a group of people. Which is generally based on writings or mythology.

Cult - A group that tends to manipulate, exploit, and control its members. Cult behavior includes manipulative mind control over members.
