So I'm building a PC for a friend, and I can't choose between these two motherboards: MSI P31 NEO-F OR GigaByte GA-P31-DS3L

What do you guys think? Or do you know a better one from that website?
Remember: The absolute max budget for mobo is €70, But I prefer a board around €60

MSI P6N. It has 650i and SLI.
Certainly don't get that board....

The GigaByte GA-P31-DS3L is a great choice though. Get that.

For some reason I don't like MSI boards but for that price the MSI P6N wins...

MSI boards break very frequently and the 650i is a fairly unstable and unreliable chipset.

Don't get MSI. MSI is shit.

I'm very pleased with my GA-P35-DS3. About the same thing as the GA-P31-DS3.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

That's bullshit considering the 650i is based of the NForce 590i chipset which is very reliable and I'm using 650i right now and I havent had any problems with it and my 650i is already factory OCed. Do you base your conclusing on own experience?

One thing I didn't like about 650i ultra and 650i SLi is the ram compatibility that is pretty horrible. the Ultra actually OC'ed a lot better than the 650i SLi.... which makes me ?

awesome, but he isn't going to get SLI. The board price should be around €60. Could someone tell me what is wrong with the MSI P31 NEO-F? I mean it is a budget system for 600 euro as the absolute maximum (lower is better). It is going to run vista ultimate x64.

Processor: E8200 core 2 duo
Memmory: kingston 3GB ddr667 mhz, 2x 1gb + 2x 512mb dual chanel (2 gigs is to little, i know from experience)
GPU         : xfx 8800GS (384mb),  he is going to play on a 17" monitor, so 384MB is enough.
Motherboard:MSI MSI P31 NEO-F
Harddisk   : samsung spinpoint 160GB
DVD         :samsung writemaster dvd burner
PSU          : Xilence 500watts
case         : cheap ATX case

total cost around 590 euro including cables, and shipping costs

Seems like a decent system to me, 8800GS kinda brings it down a bit, but if it is for a budget system, then it will do fine.

BTW, I am nearly at the point that I have enough money to upgrade and I want to switch to intell, now I am pretty pleased with my K9N n570 Force SLI, so for the Intel mobo I wanted to take this one Here Is this actually a good motherboard? Sorry to derail your thread a bit.

EDIT: Fkn alternate, link won't work, anyway this is the mobo: 'Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI '

I have only one question: Do you EVER plan on getting SLi?

How do you mean, it brings it down? It scores like 10% less than a 8800GT 512mb on low resolutions. And he isn't going to play on higher resolutions than 1024x1280. So a good choice IMO

Now on your question: That mobo isn't that good, only because it has the stamp "Fatal1ty"on it, it's worth 20-30 euro's more . The 650 chipset isn't the newest, you're better off buying a non-sli motherboard with a good chipset and an awesome GPU instead of a cheap chipset sli mobo and 2 "budget" GPU's IMO.

I was actually planning on buying an Intel mobo, a Q6600 and a Club 3D 8800GT + A PSU, because I don't think my 430 Watt Coolermaster can handle this . And then a month later, when I've hopefully sold my old CPU/GPU/Mobo and got my paycheck get the other 8800GT.

Also at the 8800GS thing, I guess you are right, kinda read over the 17'' part. PC will do fine

But lets not derail the thread any further, I will make my own post on this once I feel its time to get an upgrade. Its a decent PC, and will do fine @ 1280 x 1024.

One more question, this time about the PSU. Does it matter if I go for an "Xilence 500watts" PSU instead of an A-brand PSU? Budget must be UNDER 50 bucks. Select PSU here
