Okay first off, did I spell the subject right? (lol)

I HATE HATE HATE HATE getting criticized for my music choice.

My favorite kind of music is Hip-Hop. I occasionally listen to rock when my favorite stations that play rap are currently playing some bs song I don't like, but I ABSOLUTELY HATE when people look at me like they wish I was dead JUST because of what music I listen to. Yes, I am white. Does this give other people the right to stare me down and tell me turn down my "shit" just because they don't like it? No, it doesn't.

I was driving my friend home from school the other day and as we were passing by a cop car coming out of the school zone he proceeded to turn my music down. Bad move. I instantly turned to him and asked him what the fuck he was doing. His response, "That cop will think you're a bad kid or some shit". This just pissed me off. I turned that "shit" right back up and rolled my windows down so that cop would know exactly what kind of music I listen to.

Another instance is when I was dropping my other friend off at his house and he told me to change the station to 102.1 (our local rock station) because his neighbor (who was outside at the time) didn't like rap music. I didn't listen. It's a free country, I am entitled to listen to whatever music I like (under the freedoms provided to me by my parents ) and no one should tell me how to listen to my music and how loud it can be.

Why does everyone seem to assume that listening to rap makes you a bad person? I have not and will never drink/smoke/do drugs of any sort (don't count prescription drugs if I have an internal problem or someting).

The same thing is with rock though. I have some black friends who listen to rock and they get singled out of their cliques just because they listen to rock.

Well songs like "fuck the police" and many songs about smoking pot could have something to do with it. Ya think?

true, but alot of rock songs are about drugs, promoscuity, and anarchy. So......

true, but alot of rock songs are about drugs, promoscuity, and anarchy. So......

yes but people cannot understand them tbh. Rap makes it very clear to understand.

Okay I should have narrowed it down somewhere into like what they would play more often on a popular local radio station that didn't contain a cuss word every two seconds. I don't listen to "fuck the police" or songs like that.

Another part that ticks me off is that people will question your religious beliefs because of the music you listen to as well. I am Christian and I believe in God and I can listen to whatever music I want.

I don't think that just because someone listnes to rap / Hip-Hop that they are a bad person.

I just think that they have a bad taste in music.

That is okay, I know how you feel. You are entitled to your opinion. The part should tick you off is when people look at your favorite music and tell you how you are and the way you live just by the music you listen to.

I noticed that a lot of people who listen to certain types of specific genres, thats the reaction they want to get. They are less concerned with the quality of the music and more worried about who sees them listening to said music.

I would´nt blink if i saw a black guy listen to HipHop but as you said a whitey.. "giggle" that makes me smile abit no offence but the texts are reffering to the black community so much i find it hard to understand how a whitey can love it. Besides that i listen to some rap/hip hop but not very much.

See, this is exactly what else pisses me off about it. People assume you are a poser now because of what you listen to. If you listen to 30 seconds to mars can I ask you what cutting your wrists feels like? You wouldn't be too happy now would you.

I don't mind what music people listen to. You wanna listen to rap or hip hop, go ahead... I can't say I hate the genre. GOOD rap and hip hop is catchy. Bullshit like Soulja Boy (or almost anything Top 40 tbh) is generally pretty bad. Might be a bit catchy but bad nonetheless.

Regardless, metal will always be my favorite. But I also like punk, alt rock, and even weird stuff like NIN.

edit: I do hate it when a bunch of drunk party-goers drive by my house with their windows rolled down and their music at full blast. I'm either trying to fall asleep or trying to just chill, which is hard when these tools don't have any sense of decency. During the day blast your music all your want but at night have consideration

Why should a persons skin colour determine what kind of music they listen to, why do people have to conform to this?

I hate the assumption that black people should listen to Hip-Hop and 'whiteys' should listen to rock / whatever else. Like I said, listen to Hip-Hop, but whether you are black, white or yellow, I still think your taste in music sucks.

Stereotyping. God I have been thinking of that word this whole time. I don't like being stereotyped into the group that does drugs just because I listen to hip-hop/rap. I bet everyone here has something (a word or a few) that they have been called before whilst being judged on what music they listen to.

good point. actually, the local radio station here does it at least a few hours a week where people call and compete over a beat. but, you know what Im getting at. Flowing/Rapping/Spitting whatever you wanna call it, aint easy. Modern hip hop is a joke. Biggie Smalls make you shit your drawas

i have a friend who is heavy into the rap business, he is white, but you wouldnt know it by the way he talks/dresses and acts. He is happy and he is making money doing what he is doing. We have been friends since highschool when we used to listen to a Nas tape all fucking day long, I outgrew it, he grew into it. Rap just wasnt fun for me anymore, i love listening to late 80's rock and early 90's grunge/rock, not much else to listen to these days.

I don't know what the specifics are of your plight, but I can guess that the main cause of others anger has to do with volume more than what you're listening to.
