It's a little suspicious when you go to a car dealership and want to pay in cash.

Well they know how much you make, and they know the value of the things you own..... They also know how much is spent on food and gas for the average person. Im guessing the average person doing something illegal is missing a lot of money (which they dont give a fuck about) or is making a shit load more cash than they are claiming which is usually the case with audits and usually what happens to drug dealers and bad politicians

They don't.

They only way the IRS could nail someone is if you get randomly audited, turned-in by a spouse, or something like that. But, even then there would have to be evidence of (that "cash") income in the form of purchases. If the investigatible/verifiable purchases for that year exceeded the amount claimed on your Tax form - then they got you. Else - no, they've got nothing.

Well man drug transactions and shady deals, i.e. illegal aliens working for income, would not stop because of a lack of a cash system. I dont have any links right at this moment, but credit card fraud has increased exponentially in the last few years. I think its great, and its mighty convenient to have just carry plastic and check and balance everything when you get home, but I believe in cash. Not credit. Credit is something made up based on your buying and repayment ability to a huge system that is not regulated. I say fuck credit.  The US Constitution gives me the right to not have anyone knowing what i do with all of my finances. Yes, I pay takes and the IRS knows what my income is annually, but they have no right or business what I do with it. Period.
FUCKING AMEN.  Credit is shit and should never been allowed to go this far.  People don't save anymore. People don't look at what they can afford anymore.  People look at what PAYMENTS they can afford.

Plus, it is a little unnerving that they know where I am, what I am doing, what I am buying, all from where I make purchases, and what I purchased.  It's nice they have that technology for Credit card theft, but it's a little invasive when you get a phone call at a store, miles away from home, because its out of your normal shopping area.  I understand the reasoning, it's just a little creepy.

Everyone who isn't receiving handouts from the government already knows that the IRS is criminal anyway.

I kid you not, my tax bill this year is more than I actually took home.  No Joke.

I own a small business, and the way the tax code is written, any money the business makes I get taxed, regardless of whether I actually brought it home or not.  My tax bill is larger than my income.

Furthermore, I have to start paying estimated taxes.  What that means is, at the start of every quarter, I need to project how much money I am going to make that quarter, and pay taxes on it, even though I have not yet made the money yet!

If I underpay I get charged a massive fine.  However, if I overpay, I do not get paid interest on the "loan" i gave to the government.

Don't even get me started on the IRS.......

Even if someone does get a hold of your debit card, it's really not a big deal if you have a good bank. I've never lost my debit card or given out my information, but one time I had a $100 charge from some company I bought from before. I guess they charged the wrong account, but anyway, my bank called me up within hours of it happening and asked if that was me. I said no, and a few days later the money was returned.

Debit/Checking is the way to go. We shouldn't completely eliminate cash, just keep it in the system in very small amounts. Plus, money will just stay in the system and the government won't have to print anymore, which would have a nice impact on inflation.

If cash is removed from circulation everyone will need the ability to process debit/credit cards. People trade and buy from individuals every day all day. Kids mow lawns, people have yard sales, sale old car parts, people giving loans to friends and family, people give money to coworkers to grab them lunch, etc.

Also many people cannot get bank accounts. If you have ever had a problem with a bank and owe them money or they believe you cheated them you are added to a "system" (ChexSystems) that make it either impossible or very difficult to get a bank account. How would these people complete transactions?

Debit and credit card fraud would skyrocket. More people would get away with these crimes than ever before.
Removing cash from circulation would cause more problems and headaches than it could ever solve.

It would be one more hassle the honest citizen is forced to deal with because others abuse it.

As far as people being concerned with their purchases. Maybe people do not want big brother to know how much porn, alcohol, guns, ammunition, medications, gifts, etc. they purchase. Nothing illegal about any of those things, but its peoples personal business.

i agree on the part about kids mowing lawns, you know, and like giving your kids allowances and such, you'd just have to write them a check, that is all

in this theoretical system everyone will have a bank account, linked to their social security number given to them at birth, they can even add money to it with a credit card in a pinch

even people getting welfare checks and such have bank accounts, wouldnt you be glad to know they arent cashing it and spending it on drugs?

True, but I was speaking of both, you are tracked with debit cards just as much.

As far as electronic money only goes, why would I want to put that kind of autocratic control, over people, in the hands of an impersonal entity; the government? I don't. They could simply just turn you off, like turning of a light switch, no more electronic funds for you - you're off the grid, thanx and bye-bye now.

the only people that would ever get checked would be people who made a purchase at a place that got busted for selling something illegal or a flag goes off on your account for some wierd out of the ordinary spending/earning habits
you can have multiple accounts, but they are all linked to you, say you have a separate bank account from your wife cause you dont want her to know your buying porn or whatever thats fine, its legal.

people overdraw on their debits all the time, the bank charges 20 bucks just like NSF checks

what happens if you write bad checks? you go to jail
