- What if America Discontinued making "Cash"
O' brother! ?Locoloki wrote:
the only people that would ever get checked would be people who made a purchase at a place that got busted for selling something illegal or a flag goes off on your account for some wierd out of the ordinary spending/earning habits...
Look it's simple (and already can happen by the way), all they have to do is sell you something expensive called by another name, say a glass of champagne, a spa treatment, whatever... and then give you the f-ing drugs. So you've accomplished absolutely nothing in terms of curbing crime - but instead as a byproduct of your innocence - you've placed a complete autocratic control mechanism into the hands of the government. Great Idea! Not.
You should read your own sentence (this one) a few times and then think about the consequences and implications.Locoloki wrote:

Get real. Eliminating cash is a terrible idea.
would you support this if marijuana was legalized?
No.
dude wtf do you think happens when people write bad checks?SenorToenails wrote:

If I forge a check, I go to jail. If I write a bad check (eg, bounce a check), I pay a fee. And the poor bastard who tried to deposit it probably pays one too.Locoloki wrote:

You're not talking about punishment for fraud. That already exists. You're talking about eliminating cash, and having the Government track all transactions electronically.Locoloki wrote:

Just because you shopped at a place that was involved in illegal activities should not automatically make you a suspect in investigation. That is what it would do. It would cause problems for innocent people, their accounts could possibly be froze during the investigation.Locoloki wrote:

you can have multiple accounts, but they are all linked to you, say you have a separate bank account from your wife cause you dont want her to know your buying porn or whatever thats fine, its legal.
Here is an example:
You are not required to register firearms in my state. There is no set limit on the amount of firearms or ammunition you can own. If you purchased more than what big brother feels you should have, you would be added to a watch list. You are not doing anything illegal and have the right to purchase and possess all of the firearms and ammunition. It would be a form of registration for things that do not require registration. Firearms is just one example, but it would be used for other items too - believe it!
Because of illegal amphetamine (meth) labs, you are now required in my state to provide identification that is added to a log for purchasing certain over-the-counter allergy medicines. It's a hassle because you can only purchase the item at the pharmacy, during normal pharmacy hours, and the transaction takes considerably longer than before the law. This is the way they regulate this legal drug, because some choose to use it to make illegal drugs. The honest being punished for the illegal activities of the few. One step at a time it gets worse...
People get away with writing bad checks all the time. Most victims of bad checks don't have the time or money to pursue legal action for small transactions. Most small claims courts have a minimum you can sue for, and you have to pay a fee to sue them. Also many banks will charge a fee to the person who cashed the bad check, while the issuing bank will charge a fee to the person who wrote the bad check. You are responsible for checks you cash to your account, if the check bounces, your account will be debited the amount, plus a fee in many cases. Many people refuse to accept checks because of these problems. People would be getting ripped off left and right.Locoloki wrote:

- Removing cash from circulation would cause more problems and headaches than it could ever solve.
It would be one more hassle the honest citizen is forced to deal with because others abuse it.

God, that pseudoephedrine bullshit really pisses me off.west-phoenix-az wrote:

dont forget that taxes are taken out of your pay check and given to people on welfare who cash these checks to buy these drugs, and not to mention the people that claim they dont make any traceable money by an honest job are actually the ones making the stuff, and collecting welfare and unemployment/foodstamps at the same timeSenorToenails wrote:

pretty much like that right now. you are your credit score.
k firstly, debit is a form a of credit. it may lack interest but frequently involves a fee that is greater than the interest you would pay on small purchases.
100% correct. and most IRS enterprises violate the 10th amendment. the fact that they are presently breaking our laws is no excuse for them to continue, or to propose and enact new violations. a cashless society where nobody physically possesses their wealth and living should scare the fuck out of all of us, although we must be about 70% of the way there already.Mitch wrote:

Well they know how much you make, and they know the value of the things you own..... They also know how much is spent on food and gas for the average person. Im guessing the average person doing something illegal is missing a lot of money (which they dont give a fuck about) or is making a shit load more cash than they are claiming which is usually the case with audits and usually what happens to drug dealers and bad politiciansjord wrote:
I don't know much about American banking syst4ems, or the IRS. But if you payed in cash for something, how the hell would anyone know?
Its SOOOO not there bussiness.
exactly. next thing you know, the lower income segments of society will be paid by the meal and voila, feudalism.RoosterCantrell wrote:
FUCKING AMEN. Credit is shit and should never been allowed to go this far. People don't save anymore. People don't look at what they can afford anymore. People look at what PAYMENTS they can afford.
west-phoenix-az wrote:
If cash is removed from circulation everyone will need the ability to process debit/credit cards. People trade and buy from individuals every day all day. Kids mow lawns, people have yard sales, sale old car parts, people giving loans to friends and family, people give money to coworkers to grab them lunch, etc.
Also many people cannot get bank accounts. If you have ever had a problem with a bank and owe them money or they believe you cheated them you are added to a "system" (ChexSystems) that make it either impossible or very difficult to get a bank account. How would these people complete transactions?
Debit and credit card fraud would skyrocket. More people would get away with these crimes than ever before.
Removing cash from circulation would cause more problems and headaches than it could ever solve.
It would be one more hassle the honest citizen is forced to deal with because others abuse it.

As far as electronic money only goes, why would I want to put that kind of autocratic control, over people, in the hands of an impersonal entity; the government? I don't. They could simply just turn you off, like turning of a light switch, no more electronic funds for you - you're off the grid, thanx and bye-bye now.
your optimism is inspiring.Locoloki wrote:

yep, the sad truth is that we are already a nearly cashless society and there are too many services for me to name that are almost 100% paid for in debit/credit.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:
