I want to try this, but I don't know where to buy Potassium Nitrate. Do you have to be 18 to buy it?

I'll let you in on a little secret..........get some tin foil, wrap it around a ping pong ball and set it on fire.

Repeat and you have one big smoke grenade.

You can make smoke bombs from table tennis balls and some foil.

Here's a tip when doing that: don't use a blowtorch to make it melt.

My friend and his cousin tried it. Used a blowtorch to make it melt faster. It did melt faster, however it also skipped to the ignition stage. Now, when this stuff lights up, it burns HOT! They ended up vaporizing a few towels, and burning themselves a little bit but ended up getting the pan outside into the snow. They had to repaint all the burnt cupboards.

There's a paintball store I used to order from that had some crazy ass smoke nades. I think they were rated at 75,000 cubic feet. It makes for some great lulz if you place it in the undercarriage of your friends car and then activate it.

Potassium nitrate is fertilizer.

Also used for bombs though, so its hard to buy more than a little bit at a time

So you can buy it pure like that? Without having to extract it from anything?

Here is a link to a Material Safety Data Sheet. I'm vary familiar with these fantastic peices of information thanks to my job as a civil engineer and as a Firefighter.

http://avogadro.chem.iastate.edu/MSDS/KNO3.htm

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Appearance: white. Danger! Strong oxidizer. Contact with other material may cause a fire. May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause eye and skin irritation. May cause digestive tract irritation with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. May cause methemoglobinemia. May cause kidney damage. May cause blood abnormalities.
Target Organs: Blood, kidneys.

Potential Health Effects
Eye: May cause eye irritation.
Skin: Dust causes mechanical irritation. Low hazard for usual industrial handling.
Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Inhalation: May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause methemoglobinemia, cyanosis, convulsions, tachycardia, dyspnea (labored breathing), and death.
Chronic: Prolonged exposure may cause anemia and methemoglobinemia, characterized by dizziness, drowsiness, headache, breath shortness, cyanosis (bluish skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), rapid heart rate and chocolate-brown colored blood. May cause kidney injury. May cause methemoglobinemia, which is characterized by chocolate-brown colored blood, headache, weakness, dizziness, breath shortness, cyanosis (bluish skin due to deficient oxygenation of blood), rapid heart rate, unconsciousness and possible death.

Here's a better secret.

It's a two part explosive that does not require hazmat shipping or special license.
Of few gallons of this stuff combined with an M-80 and you've got a party.

As a chemistry supply, but no, home depot does not sell bags of industrial grade KNO3

as far as i know, when you buy it, whomever you buy it from has to submit you to the FBI, and if you buy any more than a tiny amount and don't have a good reason then you will get v&...

same thing for ammonium nitrate, they're powerful enough explosives to be controlled substances

You can't purchase pure NH4NO3 or KNO3 without a license, but fertilizers containing them are available (but as you said, highly monitored).
