I have to do a presentation for history class. Our teacher said we shouldn't use Wiki. I look up the topic I'm doing on Encyclopedia Britannica... 4 paragraphs. There's about a half a page of it in my textbook. Wiki has far more info, and I'd bet $20 most of it's accurate.

Why the hate towards Wiki from teachers? I can understand it for srs bsns like research papers, but for a presentation most people don't even take notes on?

They way you get around it, take all the information you want from wiki, but list your sources as the ones listed on the wiki page.

Just use wikipedia, but then when it comes to referencing etc.. use the wikipedia references. Most of the time, it's pretty reliable. Just be wary of info that has no reference.

I used the word reference alot in those sentences, and now again

Because they tend to view it as to much of an easy way out of homework if you can simply go www.wikipedia.org/wiki/whatever_the_fuck_you_want then just copy and paste or just change it slightly. You get much better research skills if you don't use wiki.

I still use it anyway as i'm lazy.

Use the sources in Wiki as some of your sources. Usually the link to the sources takes you right to the info.

Same with our teachers. They're retards. They're all tools, told that wikipedia can be edited by anyone. Fucking ignorant dumbasses. Wikipedia is more of a collection of the major agreement of all things in the world. It pisses me off when they talk about it

I don't see how it's bad that getting the info is easier. The whole point of these presentations, IMO, is to "play teacher" and present the information in a coherent and understandable fashion. If Wikipedia gets the job done, then why shouldn't I be able to use it for a situation like this?

Honestly, your HS teacher probably doesn't even check the numerous sources people list. I used to use bunk sources in High school. Don't try it in college, because there are TAs and such to check that stuff for you.

Just don't tell your teacher you used Wikipedia. Just use the other listed sources, and make sure you site them.
