Yes, the political insiders have done such an inspirational job.

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.[70] He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry,[71] and joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.[72] A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.[72] Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.[73] After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said "shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans."[74]

but, I dont agree with his Iraq position, but neither have I ever agreed with Bush's.

Can you say Reagan?

I would agree though.  The only difference this time is that a Democrat is the one who looks and sounds better.  The goal here is to win the election.

Ideally, this would be a contest of policy, but let's face it...  people are just too stupid for that to be the case.
Yea, Reagan was inspiring.

I get tired of everyone down playing the importance of appearance. If we have learned anything over the last eight years it's the importance of presentation. Our elected leaders are representative of us as a whole. If we are to be respected diplomatically, worldwide we need to have a leader who presents themselves with dignity, determination, and respect. Part of the reason Reagan got shit done, whether you believe in his policy or not,  is because leaders respected his words. Our current President.. not so much.
Good points...  besides, a president is mostly just a mouthpiece for the people behind him.  He's a powerful spokesperson, but ultimately, Congress and the Supreme Court have more lasting power.

Not really around where I live now (Alexandria). Northern VA is a lot different than the rest of the state in that it's practically just another part of the District, but that's where a large proportion of the population is (apparently the only place where Obama did badly is the far western part of the state, everywhere else he won by double digits).

Areas along the border with NC and WV/KY tend to be a little more conservative, but up here we're the People's Republic of NOVA.

More thoughts. Weather in the DC area today was atrocious (only about 30 degrees or so, then it rained...and froze) which might have helped Obama as his supporters tend to be extremely enthusiastic and thus are more likely to brave the frozen tundra to vote/GOTV. Clinton supporters might have just stayed home (not that she would have won, just that the defeat would have been LESS crushing).

VA has open primaries so 'pubs thinking that their vote for or against McCain would be worthless might have cast an anti-Hill vote.

AP to Hillary: Stop making excuses for losing

Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has found a lot of ways to explain her string of losses to Sen. Barack Obama.

Caucus states, the former first lady says, are undemocratic and cater only to party activists. Southern states, like Louisiana, have “a very strong and very proud African-American electorate” naturally predisposed to favor a black candidate. And so-called “red” states like North Dakota, Idaho and Kansas — all of which Obama won on Super Tuesday — will never choose a Democrat in the general election anyway.

By this logic, only certain states really matter, such as New Hampshire and New Jersey, states that Clinton has won. Or Texas and Ohio, states she must capture to stay in the race.
So Hillary is dismissing red states except the reddest state of all, Texas, because she might actually win that one. And even though the last Democrat to carry Texas was Jimmy Carter in 1976. And whether she’s the nominee or Obama keeps on rolling, Texas will stay a deep shade of red this fall.

The list of excuses is long, but the justifications are wearing thin as Obama was expected to win primaries in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia on Tuesday after a four-state sweep last weekend plus the Virgin Islands. All the contests Clinton has suggested don’t count are proving in size and scope that they do.
Read the rest. Basically, no one is buying Hillary’s excuses or spin. She’s losing. If she doesn’t figure that out fast, she’s done. If it’s not already too late.

It is.

Obama will get it and I am predicting he will carry 40 states in the general election.

He's selling change, McCain and Hillary are same old.

The economy is going to shit, we are in a stupid war and we are getting fucked on gas prices.

Don't mistake my support for Obama as meaning I believe he will bring about anything meaningful in regards to change, I just think   that the current republican party has strayed so far from it's conservative ( read small government, low taxes, libertarian ideals with a mind to growing U.S. based businesses ) movement that they need to be, and will be badly smacked down this year.

I hope they lose it all, presidency, house, senate...everything.

They lied, and they need to be punished.

What are the democrats going to do, borrow MORE money from social security than the republicans under W have?

The sooner it is exposed as wrecked and ruined the sooner I can begin to re-establish faith in the system I have paid so much into.

As things stand, social security will be broke in twenty years while government employees and politicians write themselves pensions worth up to 90% of their salary for life.

It's like when the government hires somebody, they never retire, they just keep drawing salary ( 90% pension ) until they die.

What private sector gig is like that?

I've been advocating anarchy, revolution and the slaying of illegal immigrants and politicians here since day one and I've had an epiphany;

let the motherfuckers get on with destroying the system, if that's the agenda. Let them break it so we can fix it.  I have children and don't want them growing up with this angst and lack of confidence in our leaders. If we are going to merge with mexico, get the fuck on with it so we can get on with adapting.

These charlatan games make me ill.

Kerry --
Thanks to you, Barack won all three of today's contests decisively.
Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC join a sweep of eight straight victories since Barack won the most states and the most delegates on Super Tuesday.
But the race for the Democratic nomination remains close. It's going to be a fight for every vote and every delegate in the remaining 18 contests.
Each of us needs to take responsibility for getting as many people involved in this campaign as possible.
More than 400,000 people have donated to this campaign in 2008, and we are on course to reach half-a-million donors before the crucial March 4th primaries and caucuses.
Now is the time to step up and own a piece of this campaign.
If you make a donation of $25 now, your gift will be matched by another donor like you, doubling your impact.
Make a matching donation now:

The upcoming contests in Wisconsin, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will demand energy and resources on an unprecedented scale.
It's going to take all of us to keep these victories going. But if anyone is up to the task, it's this movement.
Thanks for your support,

It's called charisma. And Obama is oozing the shit out his oversized ears.

Reagan had it. Clinton had it. Bush had more than Gore, but that's not setting the bar very high.

In a race between Obama and McCain, McCain loses on charisma alone. If it's McCain vs. Hillary, he wins...mainly due to having more charisma than Hillary (again, not a very high bar).

IMO, charisma means far too much in American politics. It causes people to overlook those candidates' positions.

Unless he's given dictator-like powers, no...he won't be able to change anything in Washington. Changing things in Washington would require wholesale firing of existing congressional members, their staffs and long-serving government civilians. Ain't gonna happen.

It's odd who a lot of presidential candidates promise to do all these things that aren't so much in their power, but moreso in the power of their party Congressman. The Prez becomes the speaking platform for the political party he belongs to so if he get elected with a promise to do "_______", the Congressman realize people want it and need to get the ball rolling so the Prez can enact it. One of the most influential changes he can make though is if a SC justice GTFO-s. 1 out of 9 people is a huge amount of influence that can be put into the highest court in the land and will definately have an impact on those cases that need a tiebreaking liberal/conservative or activist/restraintist vote. Plum book jobs, not so much influence or change, but you've got a lifetime stint once in the Supreme Court. Apparently with the way things look, the next president may just get a chance to slect some people for this duty, too.

For the second election night in a row, Hillary Clinton failed to acknowledge or congratulate Barack Obama after he won the day in dominating fashion.

On Tuesday in El Paso, hours after Virginia had been called for Obama, she stuck to her “Texas campaign kickoff” message and did not stray from an energetic, Lone Star-themed stump speech. She did mention Obama by name, only to chide his health care plan.

On Saturday night in Richmond, Virginia, Clinton spoke to a crowd of thousands at the state’s annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner, but she ignored Obama’s quartet of blowout primary and caucus wins that day as well (Obama also won the Maine caucuses the next day).

The courtesy of conceding a primary or caucus loss — and then congratulating your opponent — is by no means required. But it has become standard practice during campaign season.

Clinton congratulated Obama and John Edwards after their first and second place finishes in the Iowa caucuses. Obama returned the favor in New Hampshire, saying Clinton “did an outstanding job.” That courtesy continued through the early states.

But as the race has shifted to a delegate chase with dozens of states in play around the country, the notion of congratulating one’s opponent seems, for Clinton, to have fallen by the wayside.
