Have a very odd issue with skype and COD.  My friends who play this game use skype, it works pretty good imo.  However, if I have skype installed and click the COD icon to play, I get massive lag.  I can't even navigate the menus.  So I have to uninstall skype, restart the comp, then open COD.  When I do that, it runs just fine.  The I minimize the game, install skype, and everything works extremely well.

I just do not get it.

Tell your friends to get TS?

Or if they won't/you want to use Skype, maybe just reinstall Windows. I had a similar problem, and a reinstall fixed it.

Sounds like enough RAM.  Start the applications so they are running slow, like in your OP, and then open Task Manager and look at the Performance tab.  Is the CPU usage through the roof?

It could be something that changes when you restart windows. Usually most programs need a restart before they work, but some aren't restart-critical.

No.  Its weird.  I can run skype with flightsim X, which is a huge system hog.  It just does not play nice with COD for some reason.

And you've got the latest patches for Skype and CoD?  Do you notice excessive HD activity when it is running slow?

Try changing the affinity of Skype if you have a dual (or more) core.

This says that the problem persists after quitting skype. Different then the install problem though similar. Sounds like skype changes a system variable, I'm guessing with audio, that doesn't play well with CoD4.

Try lowering sound quality in CoD4/disabling hardware acceleration if it's an option (can't remember for sure).

EDIT: Even better, do that in Skype instead. I'm dead sure it has more advanced audio options then CoD.
