And they fucking hurt! Honestly, i dont know why i went through with this. Apparently, my bite was already good; just a small overbite and a slightly inward-pointed bicuspid. But, if i went ahead with it: 1. It was only half the average treatment time; 12 months instead of 24. 2. I wouldnt be needing dentures at 50, and possibly not until 80 or later.  But for now, every tooth feels as if it needs a root canal, painkillers arent doing shit, and all i can eat is liquid (Tomato soup warming right now). Meh, i say ill give it a few days, but im basically fucked if this keeps up.

In conclusion, who has had this horrible time in their lives, and what are some tips to get around the hardware?

My brother had to have them...I never did. I'm lucky I suppose. All I know is, I hear they hurt like fuck.

And don't be sucking face with a girl (or guy if that's your thing...) with braces. My friend proved the whole "locking together" myth to be true.

Takes some getting used to,normally everytime you go back for a checkup they will tighten the braces.

So in a few days the pain will wear off.

Don't complain.

4 teeth and 2 and a half years from now, I'll have straight teeth.

Kinda sad really, everyone loved my funky teeth.

Yeh, for about the first week I had em, I could not eat solid foods. But, the normal pain wears off in about 3 days.

Sucker. I got mine off a year ago.
They are such a pain in the butt, but you'll get used to them. After a few days, you won't really notice.

Once you go in for a wire change, you'll be feeling it for a few days after, as if you just got them on for the first time. But after the 5th or 6th time you get your wire changed, you don't feel a thing.

On that note, I get my wisdom teeth removed next month

I was fortunate, the only day that ever hurt was the first day. After that I never had any problems when they tightened them, unlike a lot of my friends who suffered a lot of pain when that happened. That being said the two and a half years I had them went fast, and only wearing them for a year will go ridiculously fast.

exactly, and honestly, you can avoid the "no peanuts, no hard candy" rule. Just don't be stupid and eat rocks.

Also, when you eat, bite off food with your molars. It's much easier.

Also, be careful when you move your tongue around, especially if you have lower braces.

Metal tips attract taste buds and like to rip them, apparently. They also like to go for that flap of skin that connects your tongue to the bottom of your mouth.

I dont see how that is possible.

I can tell you they are ripping up the inner skin of my lips, and it really doesnt help that i still have a 2-week old canker the size of a button.

Well, you haven't had 2 teeth pulled from your bottom row, have you?

Those gaps + wires over gaps = lose for tongue

Did your dentist give you wax? You can put some wax where it is wearing out your gums, that way, it won't hurt so much.
